Great holiday cottage in ideal location - single beds in both room could do with upgrading and an information pack would be useful with info about the cottage/tel numbers/info on local area

Our third visit this year to this property. It has everything we require. It’s very well equipped, and spacious. It’s a super location, ideal for the beach and walking into Berwick. We have just spent a very enjoyable Christmas there. A lovely touch was the super hamper containing loads of festive goodies, very kindly left for us by the owners. We would recommend and we’ll definitely return.

This was our 9th visit to Templers Hall stopping in both Bede and the previous holiday home which was located next door. The location is as ever excellent with the beach less than 60 seconds away, Spittal beach and prom are excellent. Berwick Upon Tweed/Tweedmouth has lots of shops, food outlets, cafes etc which on the whole are all very good (The Great Wall Chinese on the dock and Foulis are very good as is the chip shop Robert's. The area is fantastic with lots too do within a short distance of travel - Holy island, Bamber, Seahouses, St Abs head, Edinburgh to name a few. The property was the same as normal in general, clean, tidy etc apart from the following issues. The Skylight windows on the main living area where leaking very badly upon arrival due to heavy rain, this was dripping all over the carpet in several areas, we placed buckets etc to contain it but the dripping noise was most annoying. The carpets were damp/wet and smelled due to this, the smell did go away later in the week when things dried up. The microwave didn't work and we contacted the owner regarding these two issues. The windows are getting replaced a the end of the season and an electrician came to check the microwave which he couldn't get to work either. The sofas and beds could do with updating/replacing as they are well worn. With some maintenance, investment and replacement it would be back upto the standard it was originally. If this happened we would return.

This property is an excellent size for a party of 5. We liked the townhouse layout, especially coming in on the bottom floor to a utility room that had hardwood flooring (cleaning up sand was a dawdle). The rooms were comfortable, although we did have an issue with a faulty wood panel on a single bed. The views from the Velux windows in the living room were excellent! There were some definite teething issues with the property (no WiFi, no welcome pack, not much loo roll provided) however the location of the property made up for this. We were hardly ever in to use WiFi anyway ... and this was in October!

This was our second visit to Bede's. Enjoyed our holiday but the cottage could do with some updating: fridge seals worn so difficult to shut properly, freezer very iced up, sofas are uncomfortable to sit on with little support, single bed in one room - springs could be felt through the sheet. However, we did enjoy our holiday there.

To say we were disappointed is an understatement. The cottage had such potential but has not been looked after at all. The main living area, on the top floor, open plan. Smelt very stale. The sofa was dirty. I don’t think it had ever been cleaned under the cushions. It was also a very cheap uncomfortable sofa. The windows in the living area. Some didn’t open at all & one over the main living area leaked when it rained onto the rug. Probably one of the reasons for the smell. There are stains all around all the windows showing an obvious problem that’s been there for some time. There is also signs of leakage & stains around plug sockets. A potentially dangerous hazard. The kitchen chairs were broken. The bedrooms, the main bedroom had a broken window in it with a note left by the owner, so was unable to open making it very uncomfortable & hot in that room. the beds were all either old or very cheap & uncomfortable. The drawers in one of the twin rooms was broken. Several lamps didn’t have bulbs in so couldn’t be used. The en-suite shower had mould in the bottom of the shower tray. Nothing felt clean or well maintained. I have stayed in several cottages & have never experienced this before. This all lead to a very disappointing holiday for all the family. This is the first time I’ve ever felt the need to leave a bad review. Very disappointing.

The cottage location was perfect, less than a minute from Spittal beach and 20 minutes from Berwick-upon-Tweed. The cottage needed some maintenance and Investment. The roof windows leaked in the main upstairs room. As it rained all week, we had containers on the floor to catch the water. There were stains on the inside walls from water penetration from the windows. The hinge on one of the bedroom windows was broken.

Fantastic stay at this well appointed property. Great location to enjoy Spittal beach, with only a picturesque twenty minute walk across the Tweed into Berwick itself. Off-road parking at the property a real bonus and despite being litterally sixty seconds from the beach the property is unbelievable quiet. All three bedrooms are a good size with main open plan living area being extremely spacious. Highly recommend a stay.

Positives: fabulous location, lovely local people and amenities. Negatives: beds broken. Windows leaking badly and need replacing urgently. Furniture substandard and broken. Nowhere to sit outside as furniture is broken and unusable. Felt owner was less than helpful. It could be beautiful

Enjoyed my holiday at Bedes, it is in a great location only 5 minutes walk from beach. However I do think the maintenance on this property is not up to standard, the large roof windows are badly rusted and they leak when it rains fortunately for us we did not have a lot of rain. Bed are needing replaced they are uncomfortable, this apartment has been upgraded previously, in my opinion needs to be upgraded again

Great location disappointing cottage. No key on arrival leaving me phoning for entry an hour later. Furniture poor quality with damaged and broken furniture. The kitchen needed updating with cooking utensils greasy and unusable. No toilet rolls or simple curticy box of essentials. The windows were disgusting spoiling an amazing view. Paid top money for a poor run down property. Having read other reviews this seems to be an ongoing situation. Would visit resort again but find another property.

Perfect cottage if you have dogs as it is seconds away from a beautiful quiet beach. Great views of the sea from the windows of the lounge on the top floor. Well equipped high quality kitchen. Really nice shower. Comfortable single beds but double bed was uncomfortable and in need of a new mattress. The two flights of stairs to the lounge proved to be rather difficult for me with my dodgy knees and we found the low furniture equally challenging. It's a shame the big windows in the lounge are rusted leaving slight stains down the walls but they will probably be very expensive to replace and did not spoil our overall enjoyment of the cottage.
