Lovely location with excellent walks for the dog from the cottage door. Quaint but comfortable cottage. Friendly and helpful owners.

There were a few issues with the cottage for example the first time I put the oven on to warm up the cottage filled with smoke as someone had left fat/oil in the tray and it had not been removed in the cleaning process. I felt obliged to scrub the rings on the cooker as they were rusty. The downstairs section of the cottage was like stepping in to a fridge but, to be fair, we did get two inches of snow outside . All of that said, we were toasty warm upstairs and feel the cottage would be ideal in warmer weather and we hope to return. Just a small point- on your directions you mention a Harvester but this establishment is now called something else and is a Steak-bar. We were ok because we know the area and we knew where the Harvester was. I am sorry I cannot remember the name of the new restaurant but the cottage owners will know. Overall we liked the little cottage very much.

Good: quiet location, mostly comfortable, a little quirky, good for dogs because of adjacent park Poor: wifi didn't work, and because of poor mobile signal, no access to internet ; downstairs kitchen and bathroom cold (no radiator in kitchen) ; outside door from kitchen stuck fast (bottom section) ; the book about the locality was somewhat misleading, e.g. "nearest village is Billericay" - this is not the nearest village and is the other side of Basildon! - this was a little annoying as there was no internet. I enjoyed my stay, but it could have been better.

It is not definitely suitable for disabled people who have to use sticks. There are 6 steps to the toilet/kitchen level the step from the kitchen to the toilet is not marked and as the flooring is the same in both, is very hard to see. The same where the kitchen floor has been cut away for the back door. A simple caution of "beware step" would be an improvement. I had two falls with slight injuries inside the cottage, and I feel inclined to write to the health and safety executive who deals with the area. The tv was hard to use without instructions and the tv controller was hard to use. I phoned the owner 6 times over the 16/17 Sept but neither received an answer or a call-back to any of them. Apart from the above, a nice quiet week, but would not use this cottage again.
