I have mixed feeling about this cottage. Its lovely and beautifully located. So peaceful and quiet, which is what we wanted. We took my elderly parents with us and chose Fuesili for it's ground floor facilities. The problem we had was the bedrooms are too small for the elderly or infirm. They are both en-suite but there is very little room to open the bathroom doors without banging into something. The high powered showers are too dificult to turn on and off, especially if you have wet hands, and, had I known, I would have bought my own towels instead of using the scratchy ikea towels. Having said that, the luxury oak doors and high spec kitchen were beautiful and the cottage had a lovely relaxing feel. We really enjoyed sitting out and looking over the fields and exploring the area. Altho, on a hot day, a parasol would have been nice, as the garden ends up in full sun, with absolutely no shade. Aso, the cottage gets too hot with the sun coming through the big french doors, so a fan/ceiling fan would be a godsend. Despite these minor negatives, if the bedrooms had been bigger we wouldn't have hesitated to return to Fuesili but it really isn't big enough for 4. I feel it should have been marketed as a 1 bedroom luxury cottage and converted accordingly. If you're fit and healthy then the tight fit won't be a problem so don't be put off by my review - it really is a lovely cottage.

This is a lovely little cottage set in the hills of south Wales, about 8 miles from Monmouth. Both bedrooms are en-suite, each bathroom being small but with a really big powerful shower. This takes some getting used to and elderly or infirm people should beware. I feel that there is a H&S issue here; the water is soft and the shower becomes very slippy. We had to use hand towels as shower mats to avoid falling as no shower mats were provided. The water is always very hot and the underfloor heating is always on so we had to open the bi-fold doors to cool the place down, which was nice but allowed in lots of flies (which was not). The main room has one too few chairs in our opinion (there were four in our party). The TV is good and with excellent WiFi and our laptop we could watch any sporting event and all of our usual programmes. One gripe I will make is in places it wasn't very clean. I felt the need to clean the windows and we had to wash dried coffee off the kettle and some of the crockery. We cleaned the bin and the cupboard it was kept in and it was obvious that the lodge hadn't had a proper, thorough clean. The kitchen is very well stocked with an excellent fridge freezer and the beds were comfortable. The wardrobes are built in and lack space, with rough wood completion on the inside which will snag your woollies. A chest of drawers was sadly lacking from each bedroom. On the plus side all other furniture and appliances were of top quality. Getting there looks daunting but the directions you are given make it easier, turn left at the first bunch of houses (pictured on the directions, don't look for the church it isn't there) and left again at the next. If you breathe in all the way the roads don't seem all that narrow. (That is a lie- they do!) For anglers you have the rivers Wye and Monnow and two commercial fisheries at the bottom of the hill. There is a lot of wildlife, buzzards and red kites and lots of other bird species. Beautiful countryside all around, an ideal place to come if you want to get away from it all.
