Had a lovely stay at Blackbeck Cottage. Spotlessly clean throughout with a fantastically equipped kitchen and located in a wonderfully quiet and tranquil location. Perfect for those who want to get away from the rat race and who appreciate the more remote and less visited areas of the lakes. Just a 10 minute drive to Loweswater and Cockermouth. Would definitely recommend this cottage and hope to be back ourselves in the not too distant future.

This is a beautiful cottage in a quiet village, very well-equipped and comfortable. The owner has thought of everything you might possibly need to provide a lovely home on the edge of the Lake District. The village is handy for the beaches at St Bees and Allonby, as well as for Keswick and the northern lakes.

Excellent well presented cottage with everything you could need and more. Would recommend to anyone and will hopefully return again in the near future.

Blackbeck Cottage was very comfortable and spacious. Jane, the owner, left us some seasonal treats and although not there to welcome us, did call in on her return to check that everything was satisfactory. The cottage is really well equipped and everything is in perfect working order. Local amenities are not on the doorstep but that is evident from the information and Cockermouth is a short drive away and has everything you could need (or had forgotten). The cottage is ideally situated for exploring the Northern Lakes and there are pleasant strolls from the cottage itself. The cottage is bigger and much nicer than the pictures suggest and I would highly recommend it as a holiday let.

Lovely cosy clean cottage within easy reach of a number of attractions in the Lake District. Received a warm welcome from the owner. We were there over the festive period so the real Christmas Tree was an added bonus. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Blackbeck Cottage is a lovely base for a holiday, the owner has supplied everything to ensure a comfortable stay whatever the weather. The cottage is equipped with modern clean facilities, the owner has thought of everything! We were warmly welcomed on arrival and shown around the premises. Jane very thoughtfully supplied us with a hot flask during a short power-cut! We would recommend a stay at this lovely cottage.

the cottage is a very well equipped, comfortable and well situated for the northern and western lakes, especially loweswater, ennerdale, crummock and buttermere. the situation is quiet and the garden is a pleasant place to sit. jane is a friendly and informative person and it was a pleasure to meet her on arrival. we have not stayed in a better cottage before in the region and have paid more than the rate charged. we will book it again in the future. if only the weather was as reliable!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! Jane met us when we arrived and showed us around, as well as making recommendations for things to do! The Cottage has everything you need, was spotless and so comfortable, a real home from home! We would recommend The Royal Yew Pub for a meal, service was outstanding and food delicious, this was just a mile away. Thank you Jane for a lovely stay!

Definitely the friendliest welcome we have had when renting accommodation. The cottage is extremely clean and well equipped. The area is lovely, quiet and peaceful. We would stay there again when visiting the Lake District.

We have been self-catering in the Lakes for nearly 30 years, on and off, and this may well be the best cottage we have stayed in. It was done up last year and the inside is very nice indeed, with everything new and clean, but at the same time with a cosy and homely feel. The downstairs is open plan which makes it feel spacious, with a large bathroom in addition to the en suite one next to one of the upstairs bedrooms. What elevates Blackbeck further is the attention to detail and care in the way its been fitted out and equipped. A lot of self-catering these days has been nicely modernised in terms of wooden floors, new bathroom etc., but we have found that (for whatever reason, perhaps because they don't plan on living there) the owners then economise a bit on the smaller stuff, for example the quality and quantity of the kitchen equipment. The kitchen at Blackbeck is very fully kitted out (indeed, some stuff we don't have at home!). Jane the owner, who lives in the village, was also very welcoming and helpful - thanks Jane. Location-wise, its true there aren't the hill walks straight from the door that you'd get in the South Lakes, say. However, the Northern end is much much quieter and also the roads are bigger/better, so actually you can be walking in the hills very quickly and have the choice of zipping round Keswick way on the A road or down the east flank to Ennerdale etc. Highly recommended.

This cottage has everything you could think of to make your holiday as relaxing as possible, and the cleanliness was first class. It is in a peaceful location, but not too far from some amazing lakes such as Derwent, Buttermere, Grasemere and Rydal to name a few. The owner Jane was very welcoming and left us some amazing scones, with jam and cream, which was a nice touch. Would definitely go back again and recommend to others.
