Renowned for its herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle, these black beauties are the inspiration for the house names. At sale time, the bulls can be seen being walked around the farm and at breeding time the playful calves can be seen in the surrounding fields.
Blackbull Byre is set in the heart of the farm, it was formerly two cottages and has now been converted into a super, detached family house. Split level on the ground floor, there is a living room at each end one open with the kitchen/dining room. The staircase from the front living room leads to two bedrooms and a bathroom, while another from the rear living room takes you up to a further bedroom and bathroom. Outside, there is delightful, sunny, fully enclosed garden with patio for sitting out on warm days while watching the comings and goings of the farm.
The surrounding area is in the Cairngorms National Park, a wild and beautiful space of high mountains, forest and moorland. The abundance of wildlife including hare, deer, red squirrel and eagles will please nature lovers. Invigorating walks through gorgeous scenery, bike trails, pony trekking and even gliding are all to be enjoyed in the local wilderness. Civilisation is also within easy reach, with the towns and villages of Ballater, Banchory and Aboyne, strung out on the Victorian Heritage Trail, all close by.
Balmoral Castle is well worth a visit and in the surrounding area there are many other gardens and castles to visit. Other activities close at hand include fishing, golf and swimming. In the winter, skiing at the Lecht or Glenshee is readily accessible. The choice of restaurants nearby ranges from village pubs to gourmet dining. In short, there is everything here you could want from a memorable holiday. Shop, pub and restaurant 3½ miles.
