We have just spent a lovely week at Bolan House - it was perfect for a family with young children. We were there during a heatwave and spent a couple of days just playing in a paddling pool in the garden, which was great (The paddling pool didn't come with the house, we bought it from Toymaster in Penrith which itself is worth a visit if you have children - a three floor treasure trove stacked full of all kinds of toys). There are large enclosed gardens both front and back, and a little playroom with toys was a real treat. The house is clean and modern and very nicely decorated, the kitchen had all the equipment we needed (including nice proper quality knives which is rare in a holiday let!) Langwathby is really nice -we had dinner at the Shepherd's Inn one evening, which was very good, and the Nisa store is small but has a decent stock of basic necessities. Wider afield I would recommend visiting Lowther Castle, Acorn Bank and Hutton-in-the-Forest, as well as Ullswater and its surrounds of course

Really enjoyed our stay at Bolan house. Perfect for our stay in most ways. The only thing I think it is missing is a less formal table to sit and eat at then the dinning room. Very clean and modern. Only negative on location is that the local pub stops serving food relatively early (8pm)

Superb house in a lovely village. Everything you could want from a holiday home. Any queries we had were dealt with promptly before we arrived and once there, the house had everything we could need. We would highly recommend a stay at Bolan House.

Came across Bolan House when booking a last-minute trip to the Lakes to visit family, not in our usual area, but looked great online. Bolan House is a spacious, well presented house on a small quiet estate, in the lovely village of Langwathby, approx. 15 minutes’ drive from Penrith. On arrival we were greeted with a welcome basket containing a bottle of wine, bread & cookies, milk and butter had also been provided in the fridge, a very nice touch. Furniture, equipment & bedding etc. was all a good standard and clean, however, some parts of the house are starting to look a bit tired (mainly bathrooms, kitchen). Main bad points for us were the showers in the en-suites, both have shower heads that are too heavy for the brackets and therefore flop down, meaning you have to stand with your back against the wall or use the shower as a hand held, the shower tray in the second bedroom was also cracked in several places. In the main bathroom the shower head leaks at the base where threaded to the hose, under pressure a fine jet of water sprays over the shower screen and soaks the opposite wall and mirror, the basin tap is very loose. Other issues we encountered are when the microwave and kitchen counter spot lights are in use at the same time the fuse box would trip out, the oven extractor light does not work. That said, we had a lovely stay at Bolan House, the house was great, large enough for our three children, and with a lovely enclosed garden to play in, we would definitely stay at Bolan House again.

Our family have just returned from an absolutely amazing weekend in Bolan House. We literally couldn’t fault one thing, the pictures just don’t do the house justice. Extremely spacious and well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable, enjoyable stay. We all enjoyed the large garden especially the children and the location was fantastic, set in a lovely village with easy reach to Penrith only a few miles away and the Lake District on your doorstep. We enjoyed it so much we have booked up already for another stay.
