    Comfort and Equipment

    Value for money

Huge cottage with loads of space- very clean with fairly good amount of equipment- although TV was very basic and WiFi was almost non existent. The cottage is fairly basic in decoration terms but that suited us as we have children. Beds weren’t the most comfortable but bedding was good and clean. The cottage was lovely and warm throughout our stay. Paths to the cottage were not great as one of our party had mobility issues (which is why we booked the cottage) and had trouble walking down the very narrow and bumpy path to the house- it didn’t help that the outside lighting was quite poor- overall a good house but with a little bit more attention to details it could have been a great house to stay in.

We selected Bourne Cottage on two things, the large garden (advertised as enclosed) as we were taking our 2 dogs, and as we were taking 2 teenagers and a 8year old WiFi. The rear garden is not enclosed and you are unable to allow your dogs Into the garden without Constant supervision, neither points are advertised. The WiFi does not work, no ifs or buts it does not work at all, it cannot run a single smartphone when stood next to router. again a huge problem when it's sold as a facility of the proporty. Property itself is nice and large, it feels as though its been furnished on a budget, TV in living room is small and crackly, Bourne cottage at a different budget would be fine, but at a premium cost for a Week it falls short, we as a Family feel like we have been miss sold our stay with facilities not matching their description, knowing what we do now we would of stayed elsewhere.

lovely large bungalow, but the 3.5 acres of garden was unusable, apart from the immediate lawns to the property, the rest was untamed overgrown and unpenetrable ground. The carpets were industrial quality with no softness or underlay. The mattresses were not thick and the duvets and pillows were of poor quality, not feather. The main bedroom had no power sockets near the chest of drawers, so no use for hair drying . Apart from those things it was OK.

No thought gone into drying hair as there are no points for a hair dryer near a mirror. Our granddaughter had to go into the hall where there was a mirror and I had to move a mirror to the beside table to see what I was doing. No outside light which is needed when it is dark as difficult to negotiate the path. Curtains kept falling off at the end of the curtain rail. Beds, apart from 2 singles were all too soft so anyone with a bad back would be out of luck. Downstairs kitchen sink not very clean plus in the upstairs bedroom with 2 singles there were items not cleaned up. Most of the sofas were too soft and no good if you have a bad back. Freezer needs defrosting. On the plus side there was plenty of storage.

Bourne Cottage is a spacious property, set back from the road. The property is set in the middle of it’s grounds and virtually secluded. The kitchen is large and includes a dining area which overlooks the back garden with doors leading to the large patio with garden table and chairs. From the garden, the road traffic can be heard, although this was not an issue inside the property. Our group was made up of three families, including two dogs. The lounge area had three large and comfortable sofas and there was access to one of the downstairs bedrooms from the lounge, which was useful. Prior to booking we had enquired about the WiFi as this was a necessity for several of our group. We were informed it was all working fine. Unfortunately it wasn’t and became a daily frustration not being able to stay logged on for more than five minutes at a time. Given the property advertises for up to 12 people, this really ought to be addressed and the WiFi should be fit for purpose. The other issue was the volume on the rather small lounge TV, it sounded as though the speaker had blown which meant the volume had to be kept very low to prevent the ‘crackling’. Overall, the property suited us as we wanted to explore the north of the island. There were plenty of walks for the dogs close by, having an elderly member able to sleep downstairs was a big plus. On arrival there was a pint of milk and biscuits for us, which was a nice touch.

A lovely clean cottage with plenty of space for a large family. The owners are very kind and helpful. The Portsmouth ferry is literally two minutes down the road so no rushing on the day you leave! Will definitely visit again.
