A further parking permit allows free use of local SLDC car parks. (Closest being King Street). No smoking. Please note: This property has a security deposit of £100.

    Bowfell is a delightful, two-storey Lakeland stone cottage situated in the heart of the vibrant town of Ambleside. A stylish and thoughtful renovation which provides attractive, light and airy open-plan living, with comfortable and contemporary accommodation. Much of the original character of the cottage has been retained, including local slate flooring, a beautiful traditional slate mantle over a centre-piece wood burner in the lounge and exposed beams in the top bedroom, from where lovely views of Wansfell can be seen across the roof tops.


    Bowfell is stylishly finished and well-equipped, with great attention to detail. The comfortable leather sofas allow for relaxing by the fire after a day’s walking on the fells. Then, the soft beds beckon with high quality linens to sink into for a good night’s sleep. The well-equipped kitchen/dining area which opens out to the lounge, is where cooking and socialising become natural companions.


    On a quiet back street within a minute’s stroll of central Ambleside, you have easy access to shops, bustling pubs, cafes and a great variety of restaurants as well as a local cinema. There is plenty to do in the area, from cruising down Lake Windermere on one of the famous Windermere Lake Steamers, to hiking, climbing, mountain biking, kayaking or ghyll scrambling, all within easy reach of your doorstep. No matter how you pass your days, the backdrop will always be the stunning fells of the Lake District National Park. Bowfell is ideally located for couples, families or friends looking to explore the multitude of activities the Lake District has to offer, all year round.

    generally very pleased with our stay. The building work next door was unfortunate, noisy and very dusty outside, but we had been made aware, and had compensation. Lucky with the weather! Some excellent restaurants locally, and stunning scenery.

    Lovely clean well equipped cottage---our only bugbear was the renovation of the adjoining terrace house. The workmen were very quiet but 9am on the dot , banging ,sanding, reroofing ,delivery vans blocking street etc. And the skip , crates and workmen vans meant there was never an available car parking spot outside the house for the whole week. There was ample parking in the normal carparks so we just paid for the second car.

    This was our second visit to Bowfell. The cottage is almost faultless - the mattress in the main bedroom is far too soft! The central position in Ambleside is perfect for local amenities and Ambleside is a perfect base for a fell-walking holiday in the Lake District. And the weather was kind too.

    We had a great stay at Bowfell - it is a very homely and has all the things you could wish for, but the cottage is looking a little tired in places. I was a little concerned that even though I had taken the insurance to cover any accidents, I still had to provide a £100 deposit! This wasn’t needed when we stayed last year! Small problem with parking as next door had a skip and 2 vans outside for the refurbishment- I was pleased to say they didn’t work over the Easter weekend as they were somewhat noisy. Overall though we had a brilliant time and were very comfortable - Thank you!

    We’ve stayed in many cottages in Ambleside as we visit regularly and they’re all largely the same. However our family all considered Bowfell to be extra special - more spacious, high end, well taken care of and loved. Clearly more than just a rental property to its owners. We’ll be back.

    Cottage is beautiful, perfect location, facilities are all top quality, our only small issue was it was cold in the living room and kitchen, central heating was on but to low so ineffective, we did end up lighting the fire every evening, will definitely be booking again xxxx

    Bowfell is perfectly located for walking, shopping and eating. The cottage itself is beautifully decorated and well equipped with attention paid to small details.

    Great location and cottage was very comfortable. Nice touch from the owners to leave a bottle of wine but an initial supply of kindling and logs would have been really welcomed, rather than having to go to three shops having just arrived! Overall pretty clean but some cushion covers, throws etc were a bit grubby looking which was a shame. Would definitely recommend though as location and amenities were both great.
