The historic market towns of Alnwick and Berwick are under 30 minutes’ drive with much of interest to explore. Visit Alnwick Castle and Gardens of ‘Harry Potter’ fame, the extraordinary secondhand bookshop in the converted railway station or take a boat trip to the Farne Islands from Seahouses. Holy Island, 15 miles, accessed by tidal causeway, has been welcoming visitors for centuries. There are golf courses, coastal and hill walks, as well as cycling trails to explore nearby. Stroll along the pristine, golden beaches of the World Heritage coastline studded with fishing villages, or simply savour the moment with a glass of wine on your cottage balcony. Beach 2½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.
