• "Acres of peaceful and secluded countryside surround these magnificent cottages..."

At the heart of Glenprosen, one of the renowned ‘Glens of Angus’, lies the Balnaboth Estate on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park; 6,000 peaceful and secluded acres surrounding 16th-century Balnaboth House. In its midst, these six characterful holiday cottages each offer a unique and magical holiday retreat; indeed the creator of Peter Pan himself (Sir James Barrie) was born in nearby Kirriemuir and holidayed here.

These cottages were once occupied by shepherds, gardeners or other staff of the Ogilvy family when this was a traditional Victorian sporting estate. Red squirrels play in the trees, otters frequent the burns, and deer graze all around. Because of the varied scenery, that varies from beech woods to forest, pasture to heather moor, mountain streams to river pools, the area enjoys a spectacular range of wildlife, including species largely extinct elsewhere in Britain, such as black game and ptarmigan.
Magnificent walking, bird-watching, mountain biking and (in season) cross-country skiing abound on the estate and, further afield, downhill skiing at Glen Shee (25 miles). Fishing is available on a 5-mile stretch of the River Prosen, and there are twenty golf courses within an hours’ drive.
Enjoy the seclusion of this beautiful glen - peaceful, relaxing, scenic - yet just a few minutes’ drive from bustling market towns and busy fishing harbours which hug the Angus coastline, as well as from the city of Dundee which offers many attractions for all the family. The exciting Dundee Contemporary Arts is a stunningly-designed centre which incorporates galleries, a print studio and two art-cinema screens, while the Mills Observatory is Britain’s only full-time public observatory with a resident astronomer.
Good road, rail and air access to Angus provide easy access from all parts of the UK or international destinations. Shop 9-10 miles.

With stunning views down the glen, this very comfortable, detached cottage is in complete isolation from other cottages and wonderful for a real ‘get away from it all’ holiday. Living room with wood-burning stove. Large kitchen with dining area. Sun porch. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. Narrow stairs to first floor: Two bedrooms, each with low pine coombed ceilings: one double and one twin.

Had a great relaxing week at buckhood, was sorry to leave, 2nd visit we chose location to relax away from the daily grind, and we weren’t disappointed. Young son loves it due to his disability he finds cottage calming and loves to see the wildlife. We definitely be back hope we calculated the electricity ok if not please let us know. Thanks again jackie, barry, james, jess and dog poppy

It wasn’t pet friendly there was big gaps at the bottom of the fence not just in one place but numerous places . So all holiday the dogs had to be on leads at all times. The price for the electric was way over the top we were out all day every day and we couldn’t believe

Fantastic location, with stunning views all around. Enclosed garden great for the dog, and abundance of wildlife to torment him. Some minor issues with the shower, but it’s not on mains water so to be expected. Shops only 20mins away, but it feels really remote in the cottage.

An absolutely superb cottage to explore the Angus Glens and beyond. Cottage itself was cosy and offered excellent views and a variety of wildlife on the doorstep. Many near by walks and both Kirriemuir and Forfar are a short drive to get shopping, take away food etc. We ended up breaking an item and the caretaker was very friendly and reassuring about it. An all round winner - we'll return again soon.

Lovely little cozy cottage. Great remote location. Very happy other than the shower does not work. Although inconvenient, it did not take away from an amazing week away. Fab kitchen, lovely lounge, hubby loved bed though a little hard for me. Would definitely recommend, but please owners, can you fix that shower, with long hair it is really hard to have a bath. Thank you beautiful spot ❤️
