• About Captain’s Cottage

This end cottage, 100 yards from the beach, enjoys an unrivalled position with magnificent views over the sea, harbour and beaches from both front and side windows and lies at the very eastern edge of Whitby, yet only a short walk, 300 yards, down cobbled streets to the harbour bridge. Captains Cottage is an award-winning holiday cottage and is the one retained by the developers partly for their own family use. Sensitively re-built from a former old smokehouse, the architect designed interiors are spacious and well-proportioned with double glazing, cosy efficient heating and an array of bathrooms/shower rooms. Parking for two cars and an outdoor seating area with picnic chairs are available (both almost unique in Whitby). The cottage is in an ideal position for both summer and winter holidays. Old maritime Whitby with all its history, the famous 199 steps, the abbey, restaurants, pubs and museums are all within a short stroll. Extensive walking including the Cleveland Way is available locally and even direct from the cottage.

A lovely Whitby getaway venue, great location with stunning views across the sea and harbour. Good car parking, great modern facilities, copious hot water. The cottage has now got Wi-Fi too which was a much needed bonus. The cottage is just a short walk away from the local shops and pubs / eateries. This is the third time we have stayed here, and we will be booking to come again!

Spent a wonderful 4 nights in Captains cottage with our son and his girlfriend. The location is probably the best in Whitby with the most amazing views out to sea. The cottage is very well equipped and extremely comfortable. Highly recommend this holiday cottage and hope to be back soon

Superb location. Easy walk into town. Parking. Good facilities however could have been cleaned better. Hairs in 1bed, dishwasher and sink had food debris. Front door was not locked on arrival? Did not detract from the holiday which was great. Also Whitby very clean.

Location and car parking excellent. Comfort in the lounge area very good. Number of bathrooms very good and the house is suitable for a large family group including children. Double bed on the 1st floor not very comfortable, needs replacing? Overall a superb location and would definitely book again another year.

We had a wonderful two weeks with our family of 5 adults and three children. Beach a couple of minutes away and lots to do in Whitby and surrounding area. Slight negative was that we felt the 'barbeque area' would be better used for the parking and you have to negotiate the narrow road avoiding the hoards of people but well worth it with the fantastic views!

Our 3rd visit and it’s perfect for us as a family of 8. Well equipped generally. Loads of glasses but no tumblers but we can live with that!

Stayed here previously and it was fantastic but the property is now becoming tired and in need of an update, particularly in the kitchen

Given its location a tin shack would still be a special holiday location but Captains Cottage is far from a tin shack and is pretty much as described in the brochure. Spacious, well equipped, verging on luxurious, with superb views and two parking places (a rarity in Whitby) to boot. Four bedrooms, one of which is quite small with bunk beds and, in my opinion only really suitable for children but it still has lots of storage space. The other three bedrooms are big and well equipped and again lots of storage space. Three lovely bathrooms which are "not quite" en-suite but are adjacent to the bedrooms - out one door and in the one next to it. Also downstairs WC. Spacious well equipped lounge - 3 sofas, flat screen TV, lamps, coffee tables etc. and big kichen diner with everything you could possibly need. Its an easy short walk down to the sea in one direction(my grandson found about a dozen fossils in the rock pools) and Whitby old town in the opposite direction. Not so easy coming back up as its a steep hill in either direction. A couple of very minor niggles were missing light bulbs in two bathrooms -there are lots of lights so this did not cause any problem just aesthetically annoying- and a broken bathroom mirror light and I'm sure they could run to a couple of spare toilet rolls! Overall a lovely place to stay - even the weather was ugreat - and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

We had a great weekend, the views are stunning, fantastic location & parking for 2 cars is a real bonus. Wifi was good but TV reception wasn’t. Kitchen had plenty of mugs & glasses but plates & dishes were all odd & only the bare minimum of one each. A little more attention to detail would have been nice, especially regarding cleaning.

Would have been useful if a hairdryer had been provided.

Lovely warm & comfortable cottage, with some lovely views. Would definitely stay again. The room with the bunk beds might be more suited to children than adults

Great cottage-has been refurbished in areas such as bedding and kitchen equipment. Still no bedside lamps...
