Large gardens, offer plenty of little secluded areas to sit and relax, seeing nothing other than the occasional deer! Dating back to around 1870, the property represents superb and stylish accommodation finished to a high standard. Beautifully nestled on a former drover’s road, this delightful cottage has glorious views of the surrounding countryside.
This cottage is ideally located with beaches and a National Scenic Area close by. There are opportunities for hill walking, mountain biking and water-sports, or perhaps visiting renowned gardens and ancient woodland with a chance to glimpse the abundant wildlife.
The area is well recognised for its clear skies, as one of the 12 best stargazing sites in the world and the first Dark Sky Park in the UK. Whilst in a delightful, rural location the property is only a few minutes’ drive from Twynholm, a small village with a well stocked shop and two pubs serving food. The larger towns of Gatehouse of Fleet and Kirkcudbright are also within a short drive. Gatehouse of Fleet offers a wider range of places to eat and drink, and there are many attractions in and around the town including the ‘Mill on the Fleet’ Visitor Centre, Cardoness Castle and the popular Laggan Outdoor Activity Centre which is host to one of Europe’s longest zip wires. Kirkcudbright, known as “the artists’ town”, attracts visitors throughout the year drawn by the harbour, the historic high street and the diverse range of annual events and visitor attractions. The popular programme of summer festivities culminates with the spectacular Tattoo, an event not to be missed.
This cottage offers all year round comfortable accommodation for couples and families. It welcomes children of all ages with a wide range of toys and books, and other equipment available. The owners encourage the use of the garden with its separate spaces and wildlife areas, and you can even feed the goats, although these are not free ranging!

Very difficult to find anything at all to criticise about this cottage. It was so well equipped, there was nothing missing as far as we were concerned, and some things that we didn’t even know we’d need! It was supremely comfortable and a real home from home. All the lovely little touches with the ornaments and pictures. Our daughter loved the dinosaur bedding, and she’s 15! Suzanne and Micheal are fantastic hosts. Very friendly and helpful. They can give you great recommendations for places to visit, as well as eating out. The cottage is about 2 miles from the A75, from where you can easily reach the length and breadth of Dumfries and Galloway. We visited some lovely places, but I think that some of the highlights for us, were Kirkcudbright, Balcry Point, Kippford, Ratcliffe and Wigtownshire. The Gem museum (which we were sceptical about, but it was raining) was excellent! We only ate out once at Galloway Burger in Gatehouse of Fleet. We would highly recommend it. We hope to return one day. There’s so much to see and do in the area. We would highly recommend the cottage, you would not be disappointed.

Fabulous cottage! Everything you can possibly want is available, it’s spacious, clean, in short: excellent! BTW: the picture is correct. If google still points you towards a big (ugly) farm, the cottage is roughly a mile to the north.
