    > This delightful, character 17th-century cottage is located next to the square in the picturesque village of Westbourne, which is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and Chalk Cottage is one of 66 cottages mentioned in it. This lovely, quaint village has a shop and post office, a selection of pubs with dining, and a historic church, all a few yards away. Dating back to the Georgian period, this deceptively spacious home would have been the coach house which allowed the carriages to access the former Lamb Hotel. The bedroom and bathroom on the first floor would have formed an arch for the horse and carts to proceed underneath – the ground floor has since been built, in more recent years, to provide the current living/dining room and kitchen. Steeped in history, Chalk Cottage boasts features such as sash windows and exposed wooden beams in the bedroom. The living/dining room has alcoves and there is a fire surround housing an electric woodburner. A door leads from the kitchen to an enclosed, secluded courtyard, ideal for enjoying an aperitif or al fresco dining.

There is so much to do in the area, with excellent walking, hiking and birdwatching in the South Downs National Park. The market town of Emsworth is only a 10-minute drive, with a train station, a host of cafés, pubs and restaurants, as well as a mill pond and estuary where many birds and other wildlife can be seen, and where scenic waterside walks can be enjoyed. Many attractions and National Trust homes are within easy reach, as well as Chichester with its cathedral, leisure facilities, Goodwood and Fontwell races. Also, historic Portsmouth with designer shopping outlets, historic dockyard, ferries to the Isle of Wight, Spinnaker Tower and more. Beaches including Emsworth and West Wittering are also nearby. Slightly further, visit The New Forest to the west and Arundel Castle to the east. Golf, riding, sailing walking, cycling can all be enjoyed nearby. Hot air balloon flights can be arranged with the owner. Shop, pub and restaurant 220 yards.

This cottage is well located, comfy and well equipped. We have stayed here twice and would return again. You need to be flexible with parking as you sometimes need to park up the street.

The cottage itself is well appointed and quite comfortable. It is situated in the centre of the village close to a dog friendly pub and an Indian takeaway, both 30 metres. There is a lovely bakers about 50 metres which bakes on the premises. There is a Cooperative village store directly opposite and a good chippy about 100 metres away. Although the cottage is comfy and well appointed it is small with steep stairs to the bedroom and bathroom. It must also be said that the backyard is very small so if you have anything larger than a jack russell be warned. Parking is on street and on a first come first served basis so don’t expect to park right outside.

Comfortable cottage in a very nice location, with a very pleasant 1/2 hours walk into Emsworth to catch the 700 'Coastliner' bus. Weather was exceptional.

Lovely clean, well equipped and comfortable cottage. Would recommend without hesitation. There is no parking but we found parking quite easily on the street. Also the facilities in the village are good so you don't really need to use the car very often.

Great base for the local area, good dog walks from the door. Parking is a little hit and miss, especially in the evenings.

Parking is an issue in a very busy village location, it can be found but could be a problem unloading & loading.
