• About Cherry Tree Barn

Situated along a quiet lane in the sleepy hamlet of Little Barugh, this superb cottage is set in 80 acres of the owner’s grounds offering excellent holiday accommodation in an idyllic location. The cottage has been renovated from former barns and stable blocks, retaining immense charm and character with exposed beams, open brickwork, wood-burning stove and inglenook fireplace. It is immaculately presented, well equipped and furnished with flair and imagination to a high standard, with stunning views across open countryside with horses grazing in the pastures. Families can also feed the pet donkeys and chickens (by arrangement with the owner) and there is also an aviary with parrots, or take a stroll along one of the many footpaths.

Breathtaking scenery can be enjoyed on the steam railway which winds through the North York Moors to Goathland. Pickering and Malton are only a 15 minute drive. Helmsley, York, Scarborough and Whitby are only a 30 minute drive away. A perfect choice for families and couples wishing to explore this wonderful rural and scenic area.

our party was 9 adults we found it rather tight both seating in the evening and using the smallish kitchen for breakfast, it would probably be alright if a number of children were involved a car is essential The gardens and animals ideal for children

we had a lovely time at cherry tree barn. There is good outside space for the children to play. You have your own privacy area. The barn itself is a good size and suitable for large parties. We loved the surrounding area, pretty villages so many things to do and a week is not long enough.

Cherry Tree Barn was a good, comfortable cottage from which to explore the North York Moors. There is an extensive garden, with a play area for the children. On the whole we enjoyed our stay. However we found that the number of mugs and bowls provided,(plus some of kitchen equipment), was only just sufficient for ten and as a result we were continually having to wash up. On the other hand there were plenty of glasses and other plates which we did not used. We also found that the one family size fridge in the kitchen area was inadequate for our party of six adults and four children.

Good location especially with young children in the party, and accommodation fresh and comfortable. Lots to do in the vicinity. We had a minor problem, a leaking tap, and it was fixed promptly. Swings and slide on site good for wee ones, as was the duck pond, chickens and horses.

Cherry tree cottage was absolutely lovely. The children loved seeing horses and donkeys everyday. Cottage was quiet, warm and beautifully decorated.

We stayed for a week over New Year’s Eve and loved it. A perfect place for adults to enjoy a glass of wine in front of the fire and for kids to run around playing hide and seek or feed the donkeys. Helmsley, Pickering and the local countryside are all lovely with plenty to do if you want to get out and about. Would definitely stay here again.

We were six adults and four kiddies and the cottage easily accommodated us. There was adequate seating in the lounge area and the refectory kitchen table was more than sufficient for us all. The owner was on hand and helpfully sorted out any queries. Our only niggle, and its a very minor niggle was the lack of house keeping supplies. There were no spare kitchen bin liners, dish washer tablets, kitchen cloths or kitchen sink hand wash. There was some washing up liquid but this was probably left by earlier occupants. We overcame these shortcomings by calling off at the convenience store near Pickering. Apart from that we had a very pleasant few days.

This was our second visit to Cherry Tree Barn in five years and it is still a brilliant place for a family holiday. The barn has a great sociable living space downstairs including a large farmhouse table seating 10 people. The downstairs bedroom has an en-suite wet room, ideal for the less mobile. All the bedrooms were clean and comfortable. The kitchen is quite well equipped but some items need replacing e.g. the grater is broken, the tin opener is difficult to use and the knives require sharpening. None of this detracted from our enjoyment and we will definitely return again in the future.

An amazing conversion, thoughtfully carried out with great attention to detail however the property is in need of a thorough deep clean, general maintainance and renewing of worn and mismatched items. Essential basics eg hand soap in bathrooms, dishwasher tablets etc. should be included. As it is it cannot be described as luxury although with these suggestions carried out it would certainly be luxurious.

Stayed in a few holiday cottages over the years but this one lacked some nice touches as we have had before in cheaper properties ie no hand soap in bathrooms, no welcome pack of basics. No shops in the village so had to go back out to get some milk after being getting there early evening. Was lovely surroundings but just this little thing could make a difference. Sofas really uncomfy as are the beds. Glassware with ground in dirt in the bottom.

A fabulous property in a fabulous location. Very rural and quiet, a great place to spend a holiday. Lots to do in the area and dining pubs nearby. Couldn't fault it.
