Ings Cottage is located in the riverside village of Acaster Malbis, which is only 4½ miles from York city centre. This rural retreat is a stunning barn conversion, and is one of six terraced cottages set around a peaceful, landscaped courtyard within Chestnut Farm Holiday Park. Ings Cottage retains all of the barn’s original charm and character, with oak beams and an oak floor in the living area, and slate floors in the kitchen/dining room. There is also a large gas coal-effect fire set within a brick inglenook fireplace, surrounded by large settees where you can relax and unwind after a busy day exploring York. The kitchen has a country feel and has been handcrafted from old pine and equipped to a very good standard. Upstairs there is a bedroom with a double bed, as well as a room with twin beds and one with bunk beds, offering a mixture of accommodation for either a family gathering or a group of friends on a weekend away. The house bathroom is well appointed, and has a shower over the bath. To the rear of the property is an enclosed private garden with a barbecue, accessed through French doors from the sitting room. You can enjoy al fresco dining here on warm summer evenings, or sit out in the communal courtyard to the front of the property, which has a lovely lawned area and picnic bench-style seating.
York city centre is only a short drive away and is home to some of Europe’s leading visitor attractions such as York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral north of the Alps, and the Jorvik Viking Centre, which allows visitors to come face to face with the Viking inhabitants of York from over 1000 years ago. Children and adults can enjoy the delights of the National Railway and Castle Museums or lose themselves exploring the many snickleways that interconnect the old streets of the city, including The Shambles which is said to be the inspiration behind Diagon Alley from the Harry Potter book series. For those seriously into shopping, York offers a unique experience with many independent shops and boutiques - there is no better place for retail therapy. With an events programme spanning the whole year, York has something for everyone regardless of the time of year, but a visit during the Christmas market in November and December is extra magical.
