Chesswood is a fantastic holiday cottage located in a stunningly beautiful part of Exmoor. We had a wonderful holiday there and enjoyed every minute of our stay. I would recommend Chesswood highly and will be looking forward to booking another holiday there.

Cheswood is a fabulous house, make no mistake, but it possibly wouldn't suit everyone. For a start, it's halfway up Countisbury Hill, on a steep, narrow lane, in the middle of dense woodland. The kitchen is well equipped. The living room and bedrooms are all nicely furnished and a good size, with a huge telly and another one downstairs in the dining room. We loved this tall, elegent, creaky old house which is comfortable and full of character. When it rained we found ourselves giving shelter to a few spindly spiders and even a tiny mouse, which scuttled through the door but it left again when challenged. Cheswood is lots of fun if you have a sense of adventure. We particularly enjoyed sitting on the balcony among the tree tops with a cup of tea and a good book. It was particularly good for the dog as he could nose around the garden which is reasonably secure. The village itself is fascinating and you really don't need to go far to have a good holiday.

Absolutely beautiful and tranquil house and location. We have returned for the second time however on this visit, the tumble dryer belt must have been broken as the tumble drum wasn’t spinning so took a ridiculous amount of time (maybe 5-6 hours) to nearly dry 1/3 of a load of washing and I still had to take it home wet in a bag. The iron was splurting water when used after finally managing to dry some trousers in front of the fire then the iron soaked them spilling water. The kitchen needs a deep clean. The fire doesn’t get given enough wood to see you through and no firefighters - luckily we knew how to light without them being as we have our own fire at home - also it was sooo cold the day we arrived so the heaters needed to be turned up a little to make it feel like indoors and not outdoors for the first night. The house it’s self is so quirky and full of character and we love it! For the money I would expect more wood left or access to where it is stored as we had to pick up sticks from outside and I would expect the kitchen to be cleaner (the kitchen windows needed a good cobweb blitz and around the floor area needs a really good vacuum and clean. There was a dead large black beetle on it back in the middle of the kitchen when we arrived) Just such a shame about the few bits mentioned which need attention.

Cheswood was the perfect size for our group of six, comfortable and spacious. My only criticism is that the cleanliness was not as good as we'd expected. It would appear that the property was not cleaned any time close to our arrival as some areas were dusty, coffee tables had what looked like coffee stains on them and the small single bedroom and ensuite both had over 30 ladybirds in the window areas and within the curtains, so first thing we had to do was to vacuum which was not what I went on holiday to do.

Cheswood is a lovely house in a fantastic setting, set over 3 floors, kitchen and dining area down stairs, living room and master bedroom on 1st floor and 3 further bedrooms on top floor. It's a large house with convector style heating so there are cold patches in places but all the rooms heat fine. There is also an oil fired radiator in the dining room which if turned on near the bottom of the stairs heats the area nicely. The master bedroom ensuite also has an access door from the landing so you'll need to lock it when inside. Access is via the ground floor door key lock, you can exit via the 1st floor front door but we found no keys to regain access via that door. Access to the property is via a couple of hairpin bends which are fine if you take your time. The house is quite high up so be prepared for a stiff climb if on foot. Overall its a fantastic house with beautiful views down towards the river Lyn although in summer I suspect the view will be blocked by the many trees, it's lovely and quiet and well worth the walk up the hill. If i had 1 criticism it would be that the utility room would be better as a family shower room but this does not detract from the overall appeal of the house. Definitely worth a stay.

We had a fantastic 3 days in Cheswood to celebrate a 60th birthday with the family. It concentrated the mind getting to it, but we were made aware, so brilliant . It felt as if we were miles from anywhere but in fact, very little effort to walk down to the harbour. Plenty of space for the six of us plus a dog.
