Church Cottage is a charming, little mid-terraced cottage in the quiet village of Ecclefechan, nestling in the east of Dumfries and Galloway and within easy reach of the border to the south. The cottage has been completely renovated and refurbished in 2018, and has been furnished to a very good standard throughout. The modern kitchen overlooks the enclosed rear garden, and a particularly attractive feature is the large wood burner set in inglenook fireplace with exposed chimney breast. The cottage is cosy and comfortable, and an ideal base for exploring the delights of the area.

The village of Ecclefechan has shops, pubs and restaurants, and with the comfort of Church Cottage, you may not need to explore too far. Ecclefechan’s most enduring claim to fame is as the birthplace in 1795 of Thomas Carlyle, the poet and author. The cottage that he lived in as a child, today houses a recreation of an 1800s cottage and is run as a museum by the National Trust for Scotland, perhaps why the village has a slight feel of somewhere rather left behind by history. However, what the village is more famous for is probably the Ecclefechan tart, a taste not to be missed! Beach 7½ miles. Shop and pub serving food 200 yards, restaurant 5 miles.

Church Cottage is ideally situated for those who wish to explore the borders. The cottage is small but homely. The enclosed garden is okay but small inquisitive dogs can access the adjoining property through the hedge! The village itself is smallish with very friendly people. Both the Cressfield and Ecclefechan hotels are dog friendly if looking for somewhere to eat or drink and within a stone's throw to the cottage. Overall we enjoyed the holiday and would book the cottage again.

Fire is a bonus... tho heating in full place. . Big kitchen that has everything you would need... and a large toilet We were short of nothing at the cottage.. the owners are warm and welcoming. . If it was my property .. i would never let it in a million years lol. Going back very soon. 10 outta 10 from us x

This cottage was recently refurbished so was in excellent order both inside an out. The rooms are a good size and all well equipped. It benefits from both electric central heating and has a solid fuel stove in the living room. The bathroom is a good size with an electric shower. The kitchen is well equipped with all cutlery/crockery and cookware supplied if you choose to eat in. The village has a hotel/pub, two good shops that sell just about anything and if you have kids there is a very good playpark at the top of the road on the way to the motorway. The road that Church Cottage on is used by quite a bit of agricultural and heavy haulage transport so can be noisy at times. Be sure to get your Ecclefechan tart from the wee shop opposite the hotel.
