No smoking.Located in over 20 acres of gardens and woodland adjacent to Corsewall House there are lots of walks around the estate and down to the sea you can enjoy. Garden Cottage ref 30810 forms the west wing of the 18th-century Corsewall House and has wonderful sea views across Loch Ryan. High Clachan Farmhouse ref 30811 is a traditional detached Galloway farmhouse built in the local vernacular style of south west Scotland and entirely surrounded by open farmland. Stables Cottage ref 30812 is in the heart of Corsewall Estate surrounded by historic woodland and overlooking an extensive walled kitchen garden. In late January and February the woods feature charming drifts of snowdrops followed by daffodils and in April and May the hue turns to purple with acres of bluebells. There is colour in the gardens almost all the way through the year starting with camellia from January to March followed by a riot of colour in April and May as the rhododendrons and azaleas – pinks reds creams yellows purples and white – come into flower. Indeed one of our rhododendron known as Christmas cheer comes out in mid December. The autumn sees the hydrangeas providing colour all the way through to November. There is oodles of wildlife to spot from roe deer and hares to barn owls woodpeckers and most importantly this area is one of the last bastions of the red squirrel. The cottage comes complete with its own red squirrel feeder where guests can watch any number of cheeky red squirrels feeding ferociously all day. The owners record spotted at one of the feeders is currently six. Walk down to the sea to the shore on Loch Ryan and around Wig Bay and The Scar – a circular walk along Loch Ryan shoreline and back into the village of Kirkcolm. The Scar a sandbank which juts out into Loch Ryan is home to one of the largest colonies of nesting migrant terns in the region. From a historical perspective during the Second World War Wig Bay was used as a base for the flying Catalina boats – evidence can be seen of this on a walk along the bay and also throughout the woods at Corsewall Estate which was requisitioned by the Royal Canadian Air Force during the War. The Galloway coastline offers an abundance of sandy beaches and rocky coves to explore. Boat Bank is within a 1 mile walk of Stables Cottage ref 30812 and Garden Cottage ref 30810 while Port Beg is within 1 mile of High Clachan Farmhouse ref 30811 accessed via road. Both beaches are perfect for picnics. Walking golf sea and freshwater fishing pony trekking water sports and cycling are all available nearby. There are several beautiful gardens including Logan Botanical which benefits from the mild climate of the Gulf Stream.     Wonderfull holiday home. We stay in properties like this regularly with family and this was definitely one of the best - probably THE best we have stayed at. Very spacious accommodation. Rooms are well separated for anyone with young kids. Every room has a huge bathroom and massive baths with plenty of hot water. Kitchen is spacious and very sociable with large dining table. Conservatory area also has a large dining table. Separate utility with washing machine. If you are staying in this house it is definitely worth taking advantage of their offer to wander the estate. I found the history of seaplanes in the area fascinating and the grounds of the house beautiful. Whilst taking a wander I saw deer, curlew, herons, oystercatchers, etc. Local fish man delivers to the house. Whilst the views are slightly industrial towards Stranraer and the town itself a bit down on its luck it is only a short drive to beaches at Portpatrick and Portlogan. We visited during the school holidays and the area was very quiet and peaceful.

    Had a great stay with family and friends at High Clachan in Feb 19. The place was just fantastic. Very clean and comfortable, the beds were superb everyone commented on how comfortable they were. The cottage had everything you needed. Great walks around the estate. Would highly recommend. We will definitely be returning.

    If you just want to get away from everything and chill then this place is fab. We were 2 families with teenagers coming together for a weekend away and there was plenty of room. The dogs played outdoors in the garden area all day. Lovely walks nearby, Port Beg is a must past the wee cottage. We headed into the estate to find the zip wire but couldn't find it as it said private grounds so were unsure whether to carry on. Other than that we had a fab time, thank yo Kate and Angus

    Over the last few years , we have stayed at a variety of cottages and houses during the Xmas period and this was by far the best !!! The location was stunning, we had everything we needed in the way of facilities and the en-suite bathrooms were a massive hit. My elderly parents may not be able to travel again at Xmas and we could not have wished for a better place to have our last Xmas away with them!!
