The Jacobean Stanway House is a mile away from Cotswold Way Cottage and is open to the public seasonally the Earls of Wemyss still live there. Thanks to its location at the foot of the Cotswold escarpment Stanway has been protected from many changes of the 20th century. It has seen the gradual restoration of the 18th century watergarden probably designed by the greatest of British landscape gardeners Charles Bridgeman. The formal Canal on a terrace above the house the striking Pyramid and eight ponds have been reinstated and a single-jet fountain at 300 feet the highest fountain in Britain and the highest gravity fountain in the world has been added.\nWinchcombe’s town centre has excellent pubs and restaurants as well as good food shops and many independent stores. Then there are Cotswolds towns such as Broadway Chipping Campden and Cirencester with its Roman roots to visit. Explore medieval Tewkesbury and its abbey. Cheltenham hosts national literature music science and jazz festivals as well as horse racing. Stratford-upon-Avon with its Royal Shakespeare Theatre is also an easy drive away.\nRoad and rail communications are excellent with Junction 9 M5 at Tewkesbury Birmingham Oxford and London within easy reach and regular train services to London Paddington from Evesham and Moreton-in-Marsh. We booked this cottage on the basis of great reviews and the promise of exceptionally high standard. What we got was a damp and dirty cottage which looked like nobody had been there for weeks. The freezer was full of old food as was one of the cupboards, half the light bulbs were missing and the pool was filthy. There was a light fitting hanging off of the ceiling, a light shade that had been burning and on the first night the hall light bulb exploded. We booked the cottage for the pool which was cleaned when we complained but was dirty again within days. According to the cleaner they didn't even know it was in use and the previous occupants had also complained. Every pot had to be cleaned before use due to cobwebs. The owner sent an electrician to change the light bulbs and fix the light fitting as well as do a safety check which we were grateful for however seemed surprised that we would want the pool to be cleaned on a regular basis. Overall disappointing, overpriced and not comparable to other cottages on the site offering 4 star exceptional high standard accommodation. This property definitely does not fall into that bracket.

Wonderful cottage , comfy beds lovely crisp white cotton sheets , beautiful location in the countryside. Easy to drive to all of the Cotswolds villages, excellent walks for the dogs, the fascinating history of Stanway , the steam trains at Toddington, the friendliness of the Winchcombe people. So much to see and do. The added bonus of the swimming pool at the cottage made all of our adult children happy. Mary helped us with arrangements to London and for the extra night stay, couldn’t ask for more. Can’t forget the piano, my daughter loved her practice time ....Can’t wait to return.

Beautiful well equipped cottage. Excellent location and the owners were very accommodating. There is only a bath so a shower curtain would be welcomed and it is a dusty cottage. Overall we would come back and recommend to stay here.

Nice cottage in an isolated location but with decent access to lots of places of interest. Although the garden is technically enclosed, it is shared with the cottage next door and not great if you have to let dogs out in the middle of the night. Facilities were generally good, but surprised that there was no hair-dryer. Very nice welcome gift of Cava and cake, but disappointed that no basic tea/coffee supplies were provided (although a pint of milk was) which would have been helpful.

The cottage was a little remote but was nice and cosy with everything you could need. The standard of cleaning was ok but more attention needed to be paid to dusting and cobweb removal. The oven wasnt great and had a broken door handle. All in all we had a nice break.

Quiet location, calm, spacious house set in an extensive garden and right on the Cotswold Way. I suggested they add some hooks and a towel rail in the single bathroom - particularly as the cottage sleeps five. Otherwise wonderful. They accommodate dogs too.

A fantastically well-equipped, welcoming and homely cottage well off the beaten track - ideal for those looking for peace and quiet. Lovely walks nearby and within driving distance of lots of interesting towns/villages and places of interest.
