The former spa town of Matlock and the spectacular location of neighbouring Matlock Bath is the setting for a mining museum, cable car rides and show caves. Finally Britain’s premier theme park Alton Towers is also around ½ hour away. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

We found the single bed uncomfortable and caused back ache. We put the spare mattress on top which solved the problem. Suggest new mattresses. The towels also are quite old. Some sunchairs for relaxing outside would be lovely for the hot weather. Otherwise well equipped and a wonderful surrounding.

Fantastic cottage, perfect for our party of four plus 2 dogs. Great location for walking with dogs and just a very short walk to the Waterloo Pub, a fantastic pub with very welcoming staff and great meals and also allows dogs. Cottage had everything we needed and was very warm and cosy as weather turned bad and we had snow on our 2nd day.

A comfy and cosy cottage, especially as it was only 3c outside. Excellent facilities with everything one needed for a relaxing holiday. No near neighbours, except a flock of sheep, who were very quiet!

Cotterill Barn was one of the best cottages I have stayed in. The facilities were excellent, it was a comfortable and very clean Cottage; realistically a home away from home. The local Pub in Biggin (about 10 minutes walk) served some excellent 'Pub Grub' at very reasonable prices and very large portions. The Biggin Hall Hotel (near the Pub), served some really good, quality food, also at a reasonable price. The only thing the village missed was a small shop. We did, however, take the dogs for a walk (about 20 - 25 minutes each way) to the next village of Hartington for a rucksack carried, food re-stock. Hartington has a number of small shops. It also has O2 (only) mobile connectivity. For those of you who want mobile communication from your cottage, the answer simple: 'No Service' (this applies to EE, O2 and Vodaphone i.e. the phones we took with us). The plus is, the Cottage has Wi-Fi (albeit, somewhat 'flaky' and when we needed to communicate, BT decided to replace the phone line, which may be a plus for future visitors). If you need mobile comms, we would suggest you ensure your Mobile Phone is WiFi Call enabled (this is what the locals do). Would we return again: 100% Yes. The cottage was excellent and the walks straight from the door, multiple and outstanding. We, (our 2 West Highland Terriers and the 2 of us), thoroughly enjoyed our week at Cotterill Barn
