No smoking.\n Cowper Cottage is set around a courtyard of properties all converted from old steading buildings or byres in the small hamlet of New Cowper which originally comes from the old English ’cu-byre’ meaning a cow byre or cowshed hence New Cowper means a new cowshed. This semi-detached property is ideal for couples and families. On the ground floor there is a bedroom and bathroom and upstairs is the living room with its wooden floor exposed beams and a wood burner which you can enjoy on winter evenings. The kitchen is modern and well equipped. Whilst at Cowper Cottage guests can book private use of the owner’s indoor swimming pool £25 per hour. It is very popular so remember to book your slot.\n\nCowper Cottage is in a peaceful rural corner of the western Lake District yet only a short drive to the coast and its delightful beaches. Take a drive to Allonby a thriving little seaside village with miles of beach to walk. For the more energetic try your hand at kite surfing Explore the larger towns like Keswick a pretty market town in the Lake District National Park and one of the main centres of outdoor activities in the UK. Cockermouth another bustling market town on the edge of the National Park is famous as the birthplace of William Wordsworth and the house where he was born is certainly worth a visit. Cowper Cottage welcomes not only you but your dog too and you will be spoilt for choice whether to walk your dog along the beach or up one of the many fells close by. Beach 3¼ miles. This was an absolutely beautiful cottage to stay in. Set on a private farm, the two neighbours we meet were very lovely and friendly people. We could not get over how nice the place is and honestly did not want to leave

A lovely cosy cottage with modern amenities, very comfortable sofas and beds, although the double was a very small double. Very modern log burner which we had on most nights, and had to open the french doors because it was too hot! Also has central heating radiators. The two bathrooms were very adequate with the power shower being my favourite and the bath was my wife’s choice. In a courtyard with three/ four other properties but this didn’t detract from the remote country feeling. The pool and spa were literally just out the back, although we didn’t use them they seemed very popular. No pubs/ restaurants within easy walking distance but that’s not what we wanted so it was fine with us. All in all a very cosy well thought out cottage.

Lovely , clean cottage. Larger than we expected and had everything we needed. Cockeral can be a bit noisy but we are on a working farm so to be expected. Nearest shops are 3 / 4 miles away for the basics. Lovely beach at Beckfoot for walking the dog.

We had a small problem (no light bulbs in all bedside lights) but it was sorted within an hour of informing owner (even tho' he himself was away from the area on holiday). However the wifi within the building worked as far as the router but the master socket/ telephone line wasn't working/ connected so no wifi available. (A neighbour offered connection to his wifi but we had mobile service ourselves so wasn't a problem - really needs fixing tho' as the cottage is advertised as with wifi). Suggest a couple of wooden spoons in the kitchen would be useful as well.
