Hoseasons "A wonderful castle tower looking out over its own grounds making a real romantic getaway location\n\n\nLive like a laird in this historic fairytale Scottish castle which is set within delightful gardens - a simply stunning holiday location Early in the 16th century Robert the Bruce gifted the lands of Craigcaffie to his illegitimate son Neil Earl of Carrick from whom the Neilsons were descended. The Neilsons built the castle in 1570 and its hall now the living room is an impressive yet cosy room with a truly magnificent original inglenook fireplace. With a ‘wee dram’ in your hand you can just imagine yourself as the laird of the castle The romance of Craigcaffie Tower will take your breath away and original features abound including a barrel vaulted ceiling in the dining room inglenook fireplaces in the bedrooms ornamental only original doors with low doorways and turnpike stairs with rope handrails. What an amazingly unique experience staying in our own castle! We took our 14yr old daughter and her two friends and loved the fact they hardly looked at their phones - we all played manhunt in the grounds jigsaws by the cosy wood burner in the lounge-spooked ourselves by telling ghost stories at night all in a castle that provided everything we needed. Rooms are spacious and comfy-the kitchen has a larder that houses a fridge freezer, washer dryer, iron and board. The games room in the brilliant outhouse was great for playing pool and darts . A lovely break in February half term with local amenities not far away at all- much needed family time and a break from our busy lives - thank you John and Michele. Highly recommended you will love it!

I got my money's worth in the first 15 minutes with John's Tour of the place! My last name is Nelson so I was particular interested in the tower's history.

Staying in Craigcaffie Tower was a unique experience. It has a long history which the friendly and helpful owner explained to us upon arrival. Whilst situated just a few hundred yards from the A75, the grounds seem huge and wonderfully peaceful. The tower itself has 4 levels, with a spiral stone staircase linking them - so this isn't a place for people with mobility issues. The barrel roofed kitchen has a large wooden table to gather for meals and all the usual appliances. The lounge, with its two comfortable settees and wood burner, was a pleasant place to relax in the evening or when the weather wasn't so good. Sitting in the garden in the sunshine after a nice BBQ was wonderful. As for the local area, there are plenty of walks and places to visit - Castle Kennedy gardens were nice. Stranraer itself has everything you're likely to need in terms of supplies, etc. To sum up, if you're looking for a place to unwind in a unique historic building then I would definitely recommend Craigcaffie Tower.
