A picture perfect, chocolate box thatched cottage with lots of style, there is a great deal to love about Crooked Cottage, which dates back to the 1860s and is packed with charming features such as original fireplaces and beams. Nestled in the pretty village of Martham, it is just minutes from the coast and the Norfolk Broads so it really is perfectly placed for exploring the best of Norfolk. With two well-appointed bedrooms, one of which offers sunset views across open countryside and a WC on the first floor, down the traditional, winding staircase you will find accommodation that manages to be both light and airy and cosy all at once. The dining room and living room both boast electric wood burning stoves and the kitchen is a great place to cook in, made even more sociable by being open plan with the dining area. The large cottage garden at the rear is a wildflower and wildlife haven and features a patio which is covered by a wisteria laden shelter. So, whether it is the season to snuggle by the electric wood burners or enjoy a coffee or glass of something chilled in the extensive garden this is the property for you.
With broad side walks starting at the end of the lane you will be tempted to park up in one of the cottage’s parking spaces and explore on foot. Venture a little further however and you will find so many lovely places to discover and great experiences to be had. A day amidst the dunes is a must do so head for the beautiful beach at Winterton-on-Sea or, for all the fun of the fair and a heap of other traditional seaside attractions walk along the Golden Mile at Great Yarmouth. Also, not to be missed is Horsey Beach home to a huge seal colony which makes the beach and sea their home, coming ashore to moult in late spring and have their pups in winter. You are also likely to catch site of them swimming in the water during summer too. In fact, this area has lots of lovely beach habitats that are just waiting for you to build a sandcastle, take a bracing walk, paddle along the shore or go wild swimming.
Visit the Broads and join a tour or hire a day launch and be the captain of your own charter for the day. You can even rent boats, kayaks and canoes locally at Martham Boatyard. If you are travelling with children or young at heart, BeWILDerwood is a must as is Thrigby wildlife gardens where you can take a tree-top walk amongst the tigers. Do take time to visit Norwich too with its splendid Norman castle and numerous museums, theatres and galleries. There are also lots of great places to shop here including the award winning open air market and the artisan Lanes. And after all that sightseeing and sea air you are sure to have worked up an appetite so you will be delighted to find that there are lots of great eateries around whatever your tastes or pockets.
