Originally a farmhouse in the centre of the village opposite the 13th century church, this beautiful property also incorporated a hurdle making workshop, which is now The Cross Tree Annexe, where the present owner’s live. The name Cross Tree Cottage comes from the Cross Tree which was an important village meeting place dating back to Pagan times, which still has a 300 year old Lime Tree as its centre piece. The cottage lies in the heart of the Blackmore Vale and is ideally located for walks along the Wessex Way and the surrounding area. While tastefully extended, the cottage retains many original features including leaded light windows, an inglenook fireplace, bread oven and low beams. It is ideally situated a short walk from the local pub or to explore the historic, market towns and seaside resorts of Dorset, including Blandford Forum, Dorchester, Shaftesbury, Sherborne, Swanage, Bridport, Bournemouth and Poole. The cottage is dog friendly and adjoins the owners’ cottage. Enjoy scenic country walking, wine and dine in village pubs, or visit Milton Abbey, Athelhampton House, Kingston Lacey, Monkey World and the Bovington Tank Museum. Explore the Isle of Purbeck and the famous Heritage Jurassic Coast, calling in at Lulworth Cove and on to the seaside resort of Weymouth and Portland, you will have much to enjoy. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 400 yards.

Lovely cottage in a nice village with easy access to many locations in Dorset. Well equipt and cosy. Nice friendly owners in adjoining annexe. Also highly recommend village pub only two minutes walk from the front door. Would definitely return.
Very nice cottage, secure small garden, but enough space to sit out. plenty of equipment such as crock pot, microwave, even ironing board & Iron. Pub very near but sadly no village shop. Big field nearby for first walk of the day with dogs. Area (and Cottage) very dog friendly.

We did have a relaxing 3 days at cottage. On description when booking stated two steps down to cottage and low beams. My husband who has mobility problems did find the stairs very steep and wooden batons on thresholds of floor a hazard. I did trip over baton on way out of bathroom. There is a high step up to the toilet in bathroom, again a hazard because if you step back as my son did he fell back.
A smell or smoke odour constantly in-house. Perhaps fresheners would help or opening of windows would help. Did have great difficulty opening windows. On whole amenities were good but feel on description should perhaps state that the cottage is not for the elderly or people with mobility problems.
Although we did enjoy our weekend probably would not have chosen Cross keys as it certainly made my husbands break difficult to enjoy.
Such a beautifully decorated cottage, a real home from home, with attention to detail for everything you might need, even down to a range of dogwalks with hand-drawn maps for every situation. Very comfortable and well equipped, it even has a breadmaking machine! The garden was lovely and the cottage is situated to see the village pass by, a few yards from the picturesque church and a few more to the pub. Perfect!

Lovely cottage, with everything one needs. Only one thing to be wary of, extremely hot water and shower difficult to control.
Parking on road but no problems experienced. Great local pub but no shops. Blanford 4 miles so no real problems.
All in all worth staying at the cottage, good value for money.
Our stay in Cross Tree Cottage, Winterborne Stickland nr. Blandford Forum, was enjoyable. Cross Tree Cottage, is charmingly decorated, impeccably clean, tidy and with good amenities. The cottage is in a lovely village, with beautiful thatched cottages, ancient church, good pub, rolling green countryside with streams. Healthy fresh air, in short quintessential Dorset. A short drive from Blandford Forum, well worth visiting.

We needed to buy a few light bulbs the light over the sink also needed one, remote control for tv didn’t work.
No logs for the fire
For the price we expected a bit more TLC
A very nice cottage but quite out of reach of any local interest. we probably didn't see the best of the area because of bad weather over Christmas. The accommodation was sufficient but bedrooms could have been cleaner. The kitchen facilities were fine.
We appreciated the fact that our dog was welcome in the property.
This cottage is in a superb location for exploring the beautiful county of Dorset. It is exactly what you imagine a thatched country corsage will be. It is extremely well equipped and we found it very spacious for our needs (couple plus dog).
The village is quite small and the only pub is a little basic, so if you want to eat out you need to be prepared to drive.
