• About Curlew Cottage

Peacefully situated with views across to Stags Fell, this charming detached, ground floor cottage is an excellent base for exploring Upper Wensleydale. It is a warm, cosy cottage which is furnished to a very good standard. The area is a haven for walkers and cyclists with the Pennine Way passing through Hawes. Hardraw Force, England’s highest unbroken waterfall above ground, is a 20 minute walk away; or meander through Shaw Ghyll Wood with its waterfalls, wildlife and beautiful display of bluebells and primroses in the Spring. Simonstone has a hotel serving meals.

Very happy with cottage and Brenda , the owner. The weather and flooding in Hawes was unfortunate. However a safe haven in Cottage was most welcome. I have no problems. When my partner was alive we stayed in Brunswick Cottage attached to owners house. Brenda's husband was alive then . Lovely people.

Curlew lies in a fantastic location with oodles of delightful Dales walking right from your doorstep. The neighbours are friendly and welcoming and the owners helpful but unobtrusive. The cottage felt a little damp and cold when I arrived but it was soon cosy enough with the electric fire on. The views are bucolic bliss; high fell dropping to dry stone walled fields full of swaledale tups grazing under ever-changing skies. I had two delightful encounters with red squirrels and several pheasants staying out of harms way too. A great escape.
