The beautiful seasonal woodland and gardens are perfect for finding a quiet spot to sit and enjoy the Scottish sunshine or stroll through taking in the local wildlife, especially the red squirrels, buzzards, deer, rabbits and variety of bird life. Just a mile away is the centre of Pitlochry, at the foot of beautiful Ben-y-Vrackie and above the woodland shores of Loch Faskally with its Salmon Ladder. This charming Victorian town with its bold Highland scenery, made gentle by mixed woodlands, has been a popular holiday destination for many years. There are two whisky distilleries - the Edradour Distillery, the smallest in Scotland, and the Blair Athol Distillery, one of the oldest working Scottish distilleries. In this part iof Scotland you will find a great selection of museums, gardens, shops and eating establishments. For fun-filled days out, head over to the 18-hole golf course, putting green, or Pitlochry Theatre (just a 3-minute drive away). Ben Vrackie peak is less than 3 miles’ drive, whilst Loch Faskally and Woods is 2¾ miles away. Great salmon fishing is available on the River Tummel and River Tay.
During the month of October the Enchanted Forest takes place around Loch Dunmore in Faskally Woods, an annual attraction that has grown to be one of the best events in the country. The Enchanted Forest transforms rural woodland into an extravaganza of colourful lighting and music as you walk through the forest at night. Highland Perthshire offers excellent golf, fishing and shooting, river rafting, canyoning, horse riding, a highland safari adventure and off-road driving. There are many fine walking routes for all abilities from the level of loch shore to forest rambles and hiking the hills. The castles range from stately homes like Blair Castle and Scone Palace to the more traditional fortress of Castle Menzies. Dunkeld and Birnam with an ancient cathedral and period houses offers a great day out on the banks of the River Tay with unique shops and great eating places. The Birnam Institute hosts a wide programme of music, dance, theatre and monthly art exhibitions. The Beatrix Potter Exhibition and garden is a delight for children of all ages!
