With the Wolds Way and the Centenary Way right on your doorstep, this cottage is a walkers’ paradise. The Wolds Way travels across the rolling countryside taking in stunning scenery and wildlife, whilst the lesser known Centenary Way passes through the Howardian Hills and the Wolds via Castle Howard, making it a truly delightful walk with riverside sections and forests to trail through. For those with a dog, this is a really fantastic place to stay with such an abundance of walks and hikes right on your doorstep. The owners even provide facilities for the dogs to be washed down after a long day out rambling. The Yorkshire Wolds have been made famous by the artist David Hockney, who was inspired by the miles of rolling hills and beautiful scenery.
The cottages are situated on a working farm, with both livestock and arable crops. Perched on the hills above Flixton, they have sea views in the distance. At the front of the cottages you will see lots of wildlife - from hares boxing to the odd fox or deer crossing the fields. For birdwatchers, there are many species to spot, especially the owls hunting at dusk.
Yorkshire is famous for its stately homes, and Sledmere House is just a short drive away, a stunning Georgian property with gardens designed by Capability Brown. The North York Moors are just a short drive away where you can catch the steam train from Pickering to Whitby, travelling across the moors calling at Goathland, home to the TV series ’Heartbeat’. The beaches of Scarborough and Filey are just a short drive as well, and the city of York is less than an hour by car. With its beautiful, Gothic minster and cobbled streets, it is a vibrant city with something for everybody. Hull, voted the City of Culture 2017, is also within an hour’s drive and hosts concerts, festivals and shows. The market towns of Beverley and Driffield are great places to spend an afternoon wandering around the shops and market, then stopping at one of the great cafés or bistros around the squares. Beach 7 miles. Shop 5 miles, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Hare Cottage can be booked together with Owl Cottage (UK2178) to accommodate up to 4 people.

Fabulous, good quality property. Loved it. But outside didn't work for us and our dog~ all that acreage and nowhere to walk the dog that wasn't hard surface. Also chalk dust from driveway etc left car decidedly dirty and it felt like there was a film of dust everywhere. But I reiterate~property itself is fantastic.

Nice cottage with everything that you need (no dishwasher but no room for one). Small and compact. Nice welcome pack which was much appreciated.

Really nice, comfortable cottage in a good location. Would have preferred a dishwasher instead of a washing machine but would still go back.

One of two cottages on a working farm. Hare cottage was well equipped with lots of little touches to make our stay more enjoyable and comfortable. The location was perfect (for us) and the sea is visible in the distance from the cottage. As the cottages are on a working farm there is some normal farmyard noises from cattle and tractors etc. but nothing that caused a nuisance. The owners were very friendly and the welcome pack was a very nice addition. Overall a very nice four night break and we would definitely stay again in the future.
