With the Wolds Way and the Centenary Way right on your doorstep, this cottage is a walkers’ paradise. The Wolds Way travels across the rolling countryside taking in stunning scenery and wildlife, whilst the lesser known Centenary Way passes through the Howardian Hills and the Wolds via Castle Howard, making it a truly delightful walk with riverside sections and forests to trail through. For those with a dog, this is a really fantastic place to stay with such an abundance of walks and hikes right on your doorstep. The owners even provide facilities for the dogs to be washed down after a long day out rambling. The Yorkshire Wolds have been made famous by the artist David Hockney, who was inspired by the miles of rolling hills and beautiful scenery.
The cottages are situated on a working farm, with both livestock and arable crops. Perched on the hills above Flixton, they have sea views in the distance. At the front of the cottages you will see lots of wildlife - from hares boxing to the odd fox or deer crossing the fields. For birdwatchers, there are many species to spot, especially the owls hunting at dusk.
Yorkshire is famous for its stately homes, and Sledmere House is just a short drive away, a stunning Georgian property with gardens designed by Capability Brown. The North York Moors are just a short drive away where you can catch the steam train from Pickering to Whitby, travelling across the moors calling at Goathland, home to the TV series ’Heartbeat’. The beaches of Scarborough and Filey are just a short drive as well, and the city of York is less than an hour by car. With its beautiful, Gothic minster and cobbled streets, it is a vibrant city with something for everybody. Hull, voted the City of Culture 2017, is also within an hour’s drive and hosts concerts, festivals and shows. The market towns of Beverley and Driffield are great places to spend an afternoon wandering around the shops and market, then stopping at one of the great cafés or bistros around the squares. Beach 7 miles. Shop 5 miles, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Owl Cottage can be booked together with Hare Cottage (UK2179) to accommodate up to 4 people.

We had a super holiday in Owl Cottage. Everything is clean and comfortable. The enclosed garden is a lovely place to relax, with views across open farmland to the sea beyond. The owners are very helpful and friendly.

super little cottage- quality and cleanliness throughout, all mod cons, off the beaten track, plenty of quiet and solitude even though on a working ( smart and tidy) farm, or popular destinations a short car ride away. Only had 3 nights quick break, but the complete change from the daily routine was revitalising! 2 oldies and a small dog....all enjoyed it immensely, many thanks.

Loved this cottage. One problem I have Ms and any pubs etc. We're too far for me to walk. The cottage is very secluded and taxis were not cheap. If you need peace and quiet this is the ideal holiday. Very nice welcome pack scones bread and fresh eggs.

Cottage was amazing. Quiet beautiful well kept farm and the views were fantastic. The cottage is perfect for a couple and one dog. The garden is beautiful and fully enclosed although you have to get from the cottage to the gate which was fine but means you have to go out to make sure the dog doesn't escape onto the farm. Loved this break. Cottage has everything you need...very little storage for clothes but enough for a week. Lovely welcome package too. Local pub (about 3 miles) is dog friendly and highly recommend trips to Filey and Robin Hood Bay too. Highly recommended

This cottage is perfectly remotely located in the countryside for peace and tranquillity on a working farm. It's a picturesque and idyllic setting and the cottage is the same. The cottage is modern and is fully equipment with everything you need. The Owners went out of their way to make it a great stay with welcome packs for both the guests and their dogs. A recommended stay.

The cottage was lovely, clean & well equipped. The Welcome Pack was excellent - Bucks Fizz, fresh scones, and dog treats.. There were a good number of tracks near the farm to explore, and plenty more just a short drive away in Ravenscar, Filey and Scarborough. We would definitely consider staying at Owl Cottage again.
