    > Deer Park stands within 20 acres of parkland that is part of Capability Brown’s design for the great park at Scampston Hall. It is a Grade II* listed crenelated, gothic miniature castle with a long and fascinating history – folly and tea house, game keeper’s cottage, army camp and family home. It is now a spacious and very comfortable holiday house, ideal for family get-togethers, where children will find plenty to keep them entertained and adults can relax and enjoy this unique property with its numerous period features. The huge farmhouse kitchen is always cosy with heat from the Aga and there are open fires in the breakfast room and upstairs drawing room and a wood burner in the living room, adding to the ambience of these elegant rooms.

The house is surrounded by an enclosed garden with uninterrupted views over the park to Scampston Hall, a fine stately home with an award-winning walled garden and lovely restaurant. The park is a natural nature reserve and home to a wealth of wildlife, including deer, stoats and numerous species of birds. Rillington village is close by and has a useful selection of amenities including a general store, butchers, two pubs and a fish and chip shop. The gentle undulating chalk uplands of the Yorkshire Wolds, which inspired the famous Hockney paintings, is perfect for walking and cycling and visitors can enjoy a scenic trip through the North Yorkshire Moors aboard the renowned steam train which travels from Pickering (12 miles) to the fishing port of Whitby.

Local attractions include Castle Howard, Wolds Way Lavender and Sledmere House, and family fun can be found at Flamingo Land. There are an abundance of quaint market towns and pretty villages in this area and a good choice of traditional inns and fine-dining restaurants. A short drive leads to the ancient walled city of York, steeped in history and brimming with attractions which appeal to all ages and easily accessible are the seaside resorts of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

A wonderful venue for a traditional family holiday. The children loved the quirky layout of the house and climbing trees in the grounds with lots of room to run around. Very comfortable beds and well equipped with thoughtful supply everyday requirements (washing powder, dishwasher tablets) The owner was really welcoming, helpful and quick to sort out any problems. Plenty of parking space and easy to find. Highly recommended.

We loved the quirkiness of Deer Park and how much like a home it was. Our weather during the stay was excellent so we didn't make the most of all the wonderful inside rooms but can imagine on a cold day, the fires, aga and woodburner would be delightful. We did struggle a bit with the hot water system but that was probably us and one of the beds could be a bit sturdier and an outside Barbecue would have made it perfect, but overall we had a lovely stay and would recommend it to any big family for a wonderful holiday.

A beautiful place close to some unknown gems - for example the largest monolith in the UK, and Filey - genteel and with a huge sandy beach. The plumbing in Deer Park needs some fathoming to get it to work, but the owner knows this and bent over backwards to explain how it all worked. A lovely warm welcoming house, with very helpful and friendly owners

An excellent venue for our extended family gathering aged from 7years to 75. Lots to do in the area, and Deer Park very well appointed, and we had a warm welcome and welcome pack when we arrived. Really loved the facilities, quiet, rural with easy access out and about. Good local amenities. Thoroughly recommended

Cottage was good. Dont think its worth the high price when the inside is not to a high spec. Ie not enough seating in the main lounge. Very disappointed that the local pubs did not serve food after 6pm on Sunday. But the cottage location is great.
