We had an absolutely fantastic time. The location of the cottage is perfect. It has fantastic views over the loch and the mountains and is central to many places we wanted to go. It is close to many shops but more importantly close to the wonderful beaches and walks. The owners were very welcoming and friendly, they made us feel at home. I will be going there every year (or even live there permanently if I am lucky)

This was the first time we had stayed at Distillery Croft Cottage, having last visited Skye over 20 years ago. We have stayed all over Scotland on many other occasions though and are using our experiences elsewhere for the purpose of comparison. It has a superb location, half way up a hillside above Talisker distillery (hence the name), with wonderful views over Loch Harport towards both the Red and Black Cuillins. It is quite well placed to use as a base to tour the whole island, however the village itself is quite small with only one place to eat and one tiny shop for essentials. The nearest supermarket (and petrol) is about half an hour away. The cottage is comfortable and warm, and it was nice to have the choice between a shower or a bath. It will accommodate up to four (double and twin) and has all 'mod-cons' in the kitchen, except dishwasher. The owner lives next door and is always around if needed. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but do have one reservation. The property is furnished like a home, not a holiday rental, and is in a mixture of styles and woods. We felt that some of the furnishings were looking tired, one of the dining chairs threatened to come apart and parts of the carpet and rugs were looking a bit threadbare. Outside the decking was fine (and used most evenings) but the handrails were deteriorating in places. Not a H&S issue (my other half works in property maintenance!) and shouldn't put you off coming, but it does need some attention. Would we come back? Yes, but would like to see a little investment in places, to bring it into tip-top condition.

Excellent location for exploring Skye. Warm cozy property and friendly owners. Within easy walking distance from the Old Inn. Great views.

Lovely views. Parking difficult due to steep slope. Cottage warm with fantastic views but could do with being redecorated and new double bed.

    out of 10

The cottage is in a great location sitting up on a hill overlooking Carbost and the loch. Ideal location for exploring Skye, with Portree and Broadford within easy driving distance. The cottage itself has everything you need although some of the items need updated for example the toaster. The cottage was what you would call basically clean with the bedroom, living room and bathrooms all clean but it could do with a more detailed spring clean, but this did not spoil our stay. The Oyster Shed which is just up from the cottage is worth a visit and we did not hear any noise from it at all, and it was quite busy.

This views from the cottage were lovely. The cottage it self was in need of updating, all the furnishings looked very tired, and the photo taken must have been taken years ago .The cottage was not very private as You are next to an oyster/ fish food outlet which was open most days not so smelly in sept but could be a problem in the summer,a very disappointing stay
