Glorious sea views can be enjoyed from this tranquil retreat on the Hartland Peninsula, part of the North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Nine holiday cottages (refs HTTW, HTTX, HTTY, HTTZ, KAAA, KAAB, KAAC, KAAD and UKC2238) have been lovingly converted and sit around a pretty courtyard beside the owners’ home, Downe House, a listed farmhouse dating back to the 15th century. All sit in the midst of rolling farmland that slopes gently to the coast. All the properties are spacious, all bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms (bathrobes are supplied for every adult guest) and many have sea views: north to Lundy Island or west over the Atlantic. There are 7 acres of gardens (including a 2-acre meadow and a play area for children), gym facilities, spa facilities and a reading room for guests. Each cottage provides a ’baby basket’ (on request) which includes a changing mat, liquidizer, sterilizer, cot and highchair. Within the grounds is a generously sized gym which has an extensive range of equipment including a cross trainer, stepper, treadmill, rower, bicycle, recumbent bicycle, weight, ab trainer and exercise bike, all top of the range, and all allowing gym bunnies and health conscious holidaymakers to keep fit. Downe Cottages provide the perfect base for walking and cycling holidays or romantic retreats.Downe Cottages are just 1 mile from the South West Coastal Path, and half a mile to the south west lies Hartland Abbey. In the distance, the stone tower of St Nectan’s Church rises above the picturesque village of Stoke. The sea, Berry Cove and the South West Coastal Path are a mile’s walk away along a quiet, single-track road and a small footpath. The unspoilt village of Hartland is a mile away, either by road or by footpaths that take you along the side of a small river through the picturesque vale. The historic village of Clovelly is 6 miles away. This is a perfect spot at any time of year, with fishing, golf, horse riding, surfing, sailing and walking all available nearby. RHS Rosemoor Gardens, Docton Mill and Hartland Quay are within an easy drive, along with many pretty fishing villages to explore, including nearby Instow and Appledore. For families with young children, the Big Sheep and Milky Way adventure parks are a must. Beach 1 mile. Shop and pub 1 mile.

A lovely place where nothing was too much trouble. Hard to find a property that fitted the needs of the whole family but this came up trumps. Location and quality of the fixtures and fittings were top notch. The spa and gym was a great hit with my sons who made full use of the facilities. Would highly recommend.
A four generation family holiday. The layout was perfect. Great grandma downstairs. Grandparents upstairs in the double ensuite. Parents and toddlers in the double and twin with Jack and Jill bathroom. Lots of space for everyone. Gym and spa facilities were good. Jeremy and Lynda couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Easy access to the coastal path - just a mile away. We loved it and were very sad to leave at the end of our holiday.
