Please note There are 2 steps from the patio doors and 3 steps in the garden. This detached bungalow is situated down a quiet lane and set within a working farm. The bungalow has been tastefully renovated and well presented. An ideal place for family holidays with the Jurassic coastal walk only 10 miles away which takes in Lyme Regis Sidmouth and Branscombe. Exeter with its cathedral university and shops only 9 miles. Walking can be found on Dartmoor which is close by as well as many National Trust places. Exeter also has many museums the most extensive of which is the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery. But without a doubt the jewel in Exeter’s crown is the medieval cathedral inside is a magnificent vaulted ceiling stained glass and carved tombs. Along the narrow streets from the cathedral is the commercial heart of the city with one of the best shopping centres in the south west.\nExeter’s historic quayside is a popular tourist attraction. Once a Roman waterway later a 16th century port and today a city centre riverside resort it offers a unique collection of shops restaurants and outdoor activities which blend with the attractive 17th and 18th century warehouses and buildings to give a charming mix of past and present. The South West Coastal Path National Trail runs along the entire length of the Jurassic Coast. The coastal path offers the walker stunning views with a bird’s eye view of many coastal features. From here you can experience the drama of sheer cliff faces wonder at the strangely eroded rock formations and above all the views are truly stunning." https://img.chooseacottage.co.uk/Property/140/840/1408348.jpg 23293

Had a lovely peaceful week here despite Storm Dennis bringing some rotten weather. Accommodation was clean, cosy and is more spacious than photos suggest. Beds and sofas are comfy and we had everything we needed. There’s a good sized garden, and the large utility area was great for drying the dogs off and storing wellies etc. WiFi was excellent. Had the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere but a short drive away is a retail park incl a large Tesco and loads of tourist attractions and lovely places to visit to suit all ages. It is obviously right next to a working farm and so you can sometimes hear the cows and, at times, some farm vehicles but it was barely noticeable. I can understand why people stay here more than once - I think we might do the same!

Excellent cottage(bungalow), can't thank stuart & christine enough for allowing us to bring our 3 dogs plus our sons girlfriends dog. The bungalow is truly a home from home, we loved it. Very cosy & warm. Just a 5 min walk to the village pub, the Diggers Rest, where we had a lovely meal, tho unfortunately, they did'nt serve a evening meal on the sunday so we had to resort to a take away. The bungalow is on a farm so you can hear the cows of a morning, which did'nt bother us as it's nice to hear the country sounds, especially the owls, foxes & birds. Had some lovely days out to Budleigh Salterton, sidmouth & Otterton village, where they had a working water mill & great cafe plus the Kings Arms pub. Would highly recommend Downhams Farm & we hope to return sometime in the summer.

We’ve been coming here for a while now, nice to see the owners pop over and check if everything is ok. It is on a working farm but you don’t hardly hear anything. It’s rural but ideal and near to Exeter and there is a local pub called the diggers rest that does local produce and it’s pet friendly.

A lovely bungalow and well equipped with just about everything you require and even a 'goody bag' with tea, coffee, biscuits and milk so that you can make a cuppa on your arrival. Plenty of parking and a lovely large lawn for the children/dogs to play on. Beds were very comfortable. If you are dog owners there are only two 'down sides', the vacuum cleaner has problems picking up dog hair, so take your own and there is nowhere close, other than the lawn, to walk dogs off lead. Some of the traffic on the lanes travel at very high speed (we did see one accident) and you are not allowed in any of the local fields and there are no playing fields or parks in walking distance. We did find a track off Honey Lane, about three hundred yards from the village centre, opposite Honey Cottage, that goes through to the Greendale Farm Shop. Dogs can be off lead and it is a decent walk. There was maize on one side, about 3 metres tall and a similar size hedge on the other side, but a good walk that the dogs enjoyed. Goes past a large lake with ducks, geese, swans, etc. The farm shop is fantastic; plenty to keep children amused, vast selection of all sorts and although dogs are not allowed in the shop you can take them in the cafe - but book a table if you want to go for Sunday lunch - the meals and coffee are really top value and well worth sampling (you will want to go back). Meals at the Diggers Rest (five minutes walk from the bungalow and they allow dogs in part of the dining area) are also very good but again you need to book. St Bridget's garden centre at Sidmouth Road, Clyst St Mary (10 minute car ride), allow dogs in their cafe and the meals are very good. Exmouth beach is great, sand not pebbles like most of the beaches in this area and dogs are allowed on one end. Allin all, once you have sorted out where you can take dogs (meals and walks) it is a very enjoyable area to visit. We had a good time (as long as you don't mind driving in the narrow lanes). Downes Farm is a working dairy farm and it is close to the bungalow so you do get some noise and a few farm smells but not objectionable, in fact interesting to see modern farming in action and it is very modern.A good time was had by all, with thanks to the owners.

This was our 2nd visit to Downhams Farm cottage.. Very comfy and spotlessly clean.

This is a lovely well positioned property. People intending to book should be fully aware this is a working farm with cattle barns nearby. This does mean that the outside areas can be smelly with more than average flies about. It should be noted that the inside of the property is not affected due to the owners taking appropriate action.
