Excellent place for a fentastic family holiday away from crowded places. Lovely views and excellent location to enjoy nature. Landlord is very helpful, friendly and welcoming. Definitely go back to the place.

We loved this place. It's quirky and characterful, and Gilbert is a lovely host. The location is perfect for exploring the south Lakes: away from the tourist traps (Windermere, Grasmere), but only a short car ride from some of the loveliest (and less visited) spots in the National Park. The cottage has everything you need, and apart from a hard mattress in the main bed (!), is very comfortable. The views from there are gorgeous, and Broughton is a lovely little village (a mile up the road). Highly recommended, and excellent value.

We were very disappointed with our stay at Duddon Bank Cottage. The garden was in a state of disrepair. The cottage looked very shabby and was infested with bats! On three separate occasions both in the main bedroom and lounge we were accosted by a couple of bats flying at great speed all around us which was very unpleasant indeed. This meant we had to sleep in the grotty downstairs bedroom. The mattresses on the beds were extremely uncomfortable. We had to seal off all areas to try to keep the bats out. We decided to cut our stay short and came back 3 days early as we could stand it no more. It turns out that the bats were in the roof space and somehow finding their way into the house. We had a word with the owner about the situation and he said there had been previous problems with bats.
