Lovingly brought back to life without losing its original charm it retains original doors and windows with the addition of modern comforts.\nWhilst renovating Easel Cottage the owners have collected some weird and wonderful finds including unopened 1960s medication shoes Victorian glass and hospital meal menus. The cottage was originally attached by a bridge to the main house Mendip House which is currently inhabited by the cottage owners. Mendip House is also the home of the owner’s gallery business. The walls of Easel Cottage benefit from housing a selection from the art collection providing a visually rich unique style to every room. It is an art lover’s paradise – your own private gallery for the duration with the works adorning the walls available for purchase. The gallery business’ network of local artists means that the owner can also organise art workshopsactivitiesinstruction if visitors are inclined.\nA short stroll from Easel Cottage will find you in the heart of South Horrington which between 1848–1991 was the Mendip Hospital. The original hospital was built to house 400 patients and staff. The principal architect was George Gilbert Scott who is better known for his designs of St Pancras Station and the Albert Memorial in London. Wells Cricket Club is based in South Horrington with Wells Golf Club’s beautiful 18-hole parkland course at the foot of the village.\nShrubs trees and flowers adorn the cottage garden attracting a myriad of birds which fill the air with birdsong. Situated alongside Easel Cottage visitors will also have use of the owner’s private Bluebell Wood and you may be lucky enough to spot the deer that wander through occasionally.\nThere are some glorious walks emanating directly from the cottage. Wells Cathedral Bishop’s Palace and Vicar’s Close are 1½ miles away and can be accessed via a picturesque walk running alongside Wells Golf Course. Other routes take the walker past King’s Wood through to Dulcote and Dinder. There is also a good selection of independent restaurants located in Wells.\nConveniently placed for visits to Glastonbury Abbey and Tor the beauty of the Mendip Hills and Somerset Levels Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole Caves. Within an easy drive guests can reach the cities of Bath and Bristol as well as the coastal resorts and sandy beaches at Weston-Super-Mare Burnham-on-Sea and Brean Sands. Shop and pub within 1 mile. \n " https://img.chooseacottage.co.uk/Property/914/840/914728.jpg EXS

We had a wonderful week in Easel Cottage. Check in and out were really simple (which makes a big difference with two small children). The cottage is beautifully furnished and has lots of extras (eg toys, games, DVDs), especially for children. It’s within walking distance of Wells and the scenery is stunning. Highly recommended for a family break.

Wonderful location, excellent for the many beautiful attractions in Somerset and the surrounding areas. Quirky and comfortable cottage.
