This semi-detached cottage is located in the old fishing village of Runswick Bay, within the North York Moors National Park. The village overlooks the stunning sheltered bay, one of many unspoilt coves down this coast and is a stopover for many of the weary walkers covering the last stretch of the Cleveland Way down the east coast. Why not try some of the walk yourself and take the coastal walk down to Whitby, and catch the local transport back. The rugged coastline takes you on a spectacular walk with breathtaking views. East Cottage is a semi-detached cottage perched at the top of the bay where a short stroll down the winding cobbled road leads onto a sandy beach. Situated just 9 miles north of the town of Whitby, famous for the beautiful Whitby Abbey and the busy working harbour. Head inland and you are on the beautiful North York Moors with the steam railway travelling from Whitby down to the market town of Pickering. East Cottage has been tastefully decorated to a very good standard and is a cosy retreat to come back to after that long walk. Stop off at the village pub and chat to some of the locals, only a minute’s walk from the cottage. On the ground floor is an open plan living space with a lovely kitchen area and a wood burner in the living area. The bedroom takes up the whole of the first floor giving lots of space and light. The cottage cannot be faulted for cleanliness but there are characteristics which may not be to everyone's liking ; the heating is inadequate as the radiators are at best lukewarm and there are draughts from both outside stable-type doors. Unless the woodburner is lit the downstairs is chilly; the owner provides logs for the first night but a supply to last the duration of the stay would be appreciated by most people. The ceiling in the bedroom is low - unless you are 5ft 7ins or less you will bang your head on the beam at the top of the stairs and also on the beams that run the length of the ceiling when you get in or out of bed ! Last but by no means least the cottage is attached to the owner's house and there is a privacy issue due to the windows along the side & rear of the living room area being next to the driveway and path to the side gate of the owner's house. Manoeuvering the car in the driveway can be a tight & testing exercise if the owner's cars are parked there.
