During World War II it was the headquarters of the Royal Marine Commandos and used by the team planning P.L.U.T.O the Pipeline Under The Ocean. This was the brainchild of Lord Mountbatten and Winston Churchill as a huge secret pipeline from Liverpool across England to the Isle of Wight then under the Channel to Cherbourg built to deliver fuel for allied vehicles during the D-Day landings.\n\nToday this charming holiday home makes an ideal base for groups or families. The golden sandy beaches stretch for miles and the Esplanade is packed full of amusements and crazy golf as well as several places to eat. Away from the beach the main town hosts a multitude of shops cafes bars and restaurants to enjoy. The Old Village is world famous with it’s pretty thatched cottages cosy tea rooms pubs restaurants and craft shops to discover. There’s also Shanklin Chine to explore carved by Mother Nature’s own hands over thousands of years. The stunning tree lined gorge cuts its mark from the Old Village down to the sandy beach and esplanade below. In the evening the waterfalls and woodland are illuminated giving the gardens a totally different aspect and atmosphere.\n\nShanklin is well served by public transport around the island with regular buses and the railway ’Island Line’ to Ryde and Sandown. Outdoor pursuits on the island include horse riding fishing cycling paragliding golf and water sports. There are numerous attractions across the island to discover for all ages such as The Needles with its chairlift amusement park boat rides lighthouse and coloured sands of Alum Bay Blackgang Chine Dinosaur Isle the Isle of Wight Steam Railway Ventnor Botanical Gardens Tapnell Farm Park and Carisbrooke Castle or why not pay a visit to Queen Victoria’s favourite holiday residence Osborne House and its gardens? The sailing towns of Yarmouth and Cowes also make for a great day out. Whatever you decide one things for sure the Isle of Wight has plenty to offer.     Comments: Pull cords for blinds do not meet current safety standards. They should have breaks along their lengths to prevent the possibility of strangulation for young children especially as the window ledges are wide enough for a child to stand on. Cleats on the sides of the windows would secure them and guests should be made aware of the dangers so that they do secure them. Thermostat for heating was not where it was reported to be in the information pack. It was leaning against the wall on the mantelpiece in the living room. Cement round the manhole cover in the front of the building was breaking up. It was almost impossible not to go over it when using the parking space for Flat 2. Non-stick surface of the frying pan was damaged and flaking. Otherwise a very large, clean and comfortable apartment in a good location

    Fantastic accommodation. Very clean, well equipped and spacious. Ideal location. We have had a lovely holiday and we would thoroughly recommend this property.
