• About Farne House Holiday Homes - Farne Haven

Just a few hundreds yards from the bustling harbour of this fishing village, with shops, restaurants, inns and other amenities.

    • Parking
    • Indoor heated swimming pool and sauna (open 8am-8pm daily, until 1st Nov)
    • No smoking (throughout complex, internally or externally)
    > With fine views across the little harbour and its working quayside (not Gull’s Crest or Crag End), Farne House Holiday Homes are within a few hundred yards of the shops, restaurants, inns and other amenities of the fishing village and colourful seaside resort of Seahouses. Converted and refurbished to extremely high standards throughout, the properties here are grouped around a central courtyard only yards away from a fine indoor heated swimming pool and sauna (at extra cost and payable direct to the owner). Available until the 1st Novemeber, the pool has a constant depth of 4ft 6in and features a south-facing glass sun living room to one side.
Within easy walking distance, the bustling harbour boasts a fleet of brightly painted fishing cobbles and a few larger boats, and the town itself provides a good range of facilities, including golf, sailing and horse riding. There are calm weather boat trips to the offshore Farne Islands, a wildlife sanctuary for puffins, oyster-catchers, kittywakes, guillemots and grey seals. The 28 islands form a nature reserve owned by the National Trust and, though half of them are submerged at high tide, landing is allowed daily in summer on the largest, Farne Island – where there is a nature trail, lighthouse and 14th-century chapel.
At Beadnell, 2 miles to the south, the dune-backed sands of Beadnell Bay provide ideal conditions for water sports. Formerly an important fishing village and smugglers’ haunt, Beadnell now enjoys a reputation as a centre for sailing and has the unique distinction of being the only East Coast port with a west-facing harbour. The sandy beach running the length of the bay is safe for swimming and is overlooked by 18th-century lime kilns. In the village stands a three-storey, 16th-century peel tower, which now forms part of an inn. Five minutes’ drive to the north of Farne House Holiday Homes stands the mighty fortress of Bamburgh Castle, easily visible across the wide stretch of sand from Seahouses.
Just a few miles further on is yet more historical, natural and scenic interest at Holy Island. Here, the fairytale Lindisfarne Castle was first a 16th-century fort, then a ruin which was redesigned by Edwin Lutyens in 1902 and is now owned by the National Trust.
Inland is a country of massive hills and moors, fast rivers and great forests. Between the Cheviots and the sea, there is easy touring through fields of corn and pastures dotted with solid stone hamlets and lined by dry-stone walls which patchwork the countryside. Shops 500 yards.

The apartment is a bit 'tired' regarding the decore and could do with updating, although the furniture was generally satisfactory. The location was great, especially with having the large sitting room windows to enjoy the view. The family enjoyed the swimming pool. Whilst we could appreciate why towels were probably not provided and were happy to bring our own, we were disappointed at the lack of basics eg general cleaning material in the kitchen, toilet rolls and soap in the bathrooms, bucket and mop (for the kitchen floor - we had a spillage). The lack of drying facilities for laundry and towels was particularly annoying, the clothes airer (which was broken) was inadequate for drying clothes and towels. The car parking also needs some attention to avoid disputes. there was no indication where to park for each appartment. A particular issue is why was there an obligatory charge? This should have been included in the price, whatever it was for. For the adverse matters discribed above, we would be reluctant to recommend the appartment until these issues are dealt with. Otherwise it would be very good, particularly as it is in such a great location and has magnificent views

Apartment was clean and comfortable albeit the Kitchen flooring was a bit dated. It was a bonus having the pool (although the water was a little cool). We had a problem with the tap in the kitchen - but a quick call to the owners resulted in this being fixed the same day. Fantastic service! Perfect cottages to rent to be close to everything - and the views are to die for

Brilliant. We'll be going again. I only marked comfort down as we found the property a bit hot and couldn't open the windows as wide as we would've liked. The bedroom windows (downstairs) are street facing so reluctant to open them so the air is quite stale in the rooms.

The cottage is dated, damp, worn and lacking in homely touches and modern facilities. Both the bathrooms had peeling wallpaper and mouldy grouting/silicone with locks that didn't locate; the living room furniture all showed signs of staining with worn arms (hidden by arm-covers); the plumbing made a horrific noise with a dangerously high hot water temperature, the taps over the sink in the bathroom were amusing - only 'just' managing to fill the sink as opposed to flooding the surround as they were too small for the sink; the kitchen window had a broken latch and often blew open; whilst seemingly well-appointed many of the items in the cupboards would not be used during a short self-catering break - eg gravy boat and cake tins whereas baking trays for pizzas would have been very useful! Having stayed at a bright modern apartment (in a Victorian house) in York on our way up to Seahouses arriving at Farne Haven was in stark comparison; simple things like shelves for toiletries in the bathroom and towel rails/hanging - especially bearing in mind the swimming pool and extra soggy towels this produced; the fold-out rail provided looked like it was 25yrs old - wonky with cracked and peeling plastic which would be so simple to rectify. The pool was very nice and thoroughly enjoyed by the kids, but again let down by broken showers perhaps brought to prominence by overbearing warning signs (if so dangerous why not just cap off?) The complex is in a great location with superb views and deserves to be brought up to a modern standard. I'm assuming the large 'For Sale' signs on the side of the building show the level of interest and investment that the owners are willing to give the property.
