    > With fine views across the little harbour and its working quayside (not Gull’s Crest or Crag End), Farne House Holiday Homes are within a few hundred yards of the shops, restaurants, inns and other amenities of the fishing village and colourful seaside resort of Seahouses. Converted and refurbished to extremely high standards throughout, the properties here are grouped around a central courtyard only yards away from a fine indoor heated swimming pool and sauna (at extra cost and payable direct to the owner). Available until the 1st Novemeber, the pool has a constant depth of 4ft 6in and features a south-facing glass sun living room to one side.
Within easy walking distance, the bustling harbour boasts a fleet of brightly painted fishing cobbles and a few larger boats, and the town itself provides a good range of facilities, including golf, sailing and horse riding. There are calm weather boat trips to the offshore Farne Islands, a wildlife sanctuary for puffins, oyster-catchers, kittywakes, guillemots and grey seals. The 28 islands form a nature reserve owned by the National Trust and, though half of them are submerged at high tide, landing is allowed daily in summer on the largest, Farne Island – where there is a nature trail, lighthouse and 14th-century chapel.
At Beadnell, 2 miles to the south, the dune-backed sands of Beadnell Bay provide ideal conditions for water sports. Formerly an important fishing village and smugglers’ haunt, Beadnell now enjoys a reputation as a centre for sailing and has the unique distinction of being the only East Coast port with a west-facing harbour. The sandy beach running the length of the bay is safe for swimming and is overlooked by 18th-century lime kilns. In the village stands a three-storey, 16th-century peel tower, which now forms part of an inn. Five minutes’ drive to the north of Farne House Holiday Homes stands the mighty fortress of Bamburgh Castle, easily visible across the wide stretch of sand from Seahouses.
Just a few miles further on is yet more historical, natural and scenic interest at Holy Island. Here, the fairytale Lindisfarne Castle was first a 16th-century fort, then a ruin which was redesigned by Edwin Lutyens in 1902 and is now owned by the National Trust.
Inland is a country of massive hills and moors, fast rivers and great forests. Between the Cheviots and the sea, there is easy touring through fields of corn and pastures dotted with solid stone hamlets and lined by dry-stone walls which patchwork the countryside. Shops 500 yards.

Location wonderful, although decor getting a little tired, much to do in the immediate area and used car only twice during the week. The pool was excellent and used it every day for an hour or so. Hope to return. NB: control to top right hot plate is u/s

Earlier reviews suggested that we could have made a mistake in booking this, but we were very happy with what we got. For a daily swimmer and a birdwatcher this was the perfect accommodation for the time of year. Yes, the decor is a little old-fashioned, but does that really matter in such a great location? It had everything we needed.

Despite the very cold and windy weather the apartment was always warm and cosy on our return from our days out wildlife watching. Lovely views from the comfort of the lounge and a fully equipped kitchen made our stay a joy. We will return.

Very good were the view, the swimming pool, cleanliness, hot water and it was spacious (we were 2 not 4). BUT, in contrast, for the money as a place billed as furnished to a high standard and fairly upmarket it did not meet expectations. Apart from the curtains the furniture was rather dismal and the lounge seating was obviously worn out hence covered in horrid beige "candlewick bedspreads" which slide about and are impossible to keep tidy. We regularly stay in rented property and have never been to a place where there is no welcome folder with local information, emergency phone numbers, points of local interest, walks etc or a local OS map. Simply a reminder for the extra money which we fail to understand - why having paid a lot of money one should need to pay extra on arrival for outside lighting remains a sore mystery. And why are towels not provided as they are in most places now. There were no "niceties" - very often there is a cake, a fresh loaf, a small packet of biscuits, a vase of flowers - some gesture to make it feel like a welcome home. There was no toilet cleaner or soap, the toilet seat in the bathroom is loose and the lid will not stay up for male use. There were only 4 teaspoons one of which was bent and the frying pan handle is loose. The storage heaters work but are very inflexible -it takes nearly 2 days for one to become hot or cool down - and the rusty bathroom one and the cloakroom one did not work at all so airing towels is a bind. We were surprised there was no Wifi - this should surely have been mentioned in the brochure. There wasn't at least one spare rubbish bin liner, and certainly nothing like foil or cling film. The bulb of the light over the sink had gone and there were no spare bulbs at all in the place. All in all we thought it vastly over rated and though we enjoyed our week it certainly wasn't because of the accommodation but in spite of it. If it were our property we would be ashamed to let it as described.

Definitely not a luxury apartment. Dated. Duvets too small for beds. Shower quite basic. Musty smell in ground floor bedroom. Location was really good and view from living room was excellent, but furniture was very worn so covered with scratchy wool throws. Swimming pool was a plus but showers were unsafe too use and steps into pool were wobbly.
