• Nestling in the grounds of Fasque Estate, these five stunning detached cottages sit in the glorious countryside of southern Aberdeenshire, on the border of the Scottish Highlands. Ideal for a short or long break at any time of the year, they have been meticulously designed with traditional comfort and an individual elegance in mind. They range from a fairytale romantic hideaway, to sumptuous family homes. Guests are free to roam the extensive grounds of the estate, which is home to a wealth of wildlife - look out for the private deer herd on the banks of the lochan, or you may see squirrels, woodpeckers and buzzards whilst following the many paths and walkways that criss-cross the grounds. Activities are available on site, including shooting, clay pigeon shooting and horse riding, and catering and housekeeping are available by arrangement. The estate would have been one of the main employers in the area. Employees were housed in the properties on the estate, as indeed they still are today. Sir John Gladstone bought the Fasque mansion in 1829 and his son, William Gladstone, Queen Victoria’s prime minister, was a frequent visitor throughout his life.

The Gardeners Cottage (ref UKC2427) has large sliding patio doors in the kitchen which open out to a sun filled patio. Enjoy a glass of wine or al fresco dining in total privacy. This property lets the outside in and offers an exceptional level of comfort. The Garden Rooms (ref UKC2426) makes for a truly romantic retreat, with its turret and cosy open fires in the living room and bedroom. Set in the walled garden of the estate, this is a wonderful property offering privacy and has been imaginatively furnished to emphasise comfort and luxury. Surrounded by its own private garden, Avenue Cottage (ref UKC2428) is a delightful two bedroom cottage that has been elegantly furnished throughout. With up-to-date facilities and zip and link beds, it offers ideal accommodation for families or friends. Gardeners Bothy (ref UKC2429) is a gorgeous house offering a luxurious interior in convivial surroundings. It has a large open plan living area, and the kitchen opens out to the secluded patio and garden on two sides. There are two bedrooms on the ground floor and one on the first, which has large Velux windows maximising the light and views. The Stables (ref UKC3863) was built in a square shape with a fully enclosed inner courtyard landscaped with water features and stylish planting, the house is a wonderful choice for extended families with children of all ages. Guests will love the different sitting areas, styled with flair and comfort in mind and the beautiful bedrooms offer a boutique experience with partial walls concealing extravagant en-suite bathrooms, luxurious beds and plenty of space.

Country houses and castles abound in the surrounding areas, such as Crathes Castle near Banchory, with its turrets and gargoyles. There are gardens and woodland walks, as well as craft activities for the children. The ruins of Dunnottar Castle may look familiar to film fans, as the castle was one of the inspirations for Disney Pixar’s animated ’Brave’. Dating back to 1824, Fettercairn Distillery near Laurencekirk is one of Scotland’s oldest malt whisky distilleries, and offers summer tours Monday to Saturday. Royal Lochnagar Distillery lies next to Balmoral Castle in Royal Deeside, and retains much of its original charm. Match your desire for whisky knowledge to one of Lochnagar’s three tours throughout the year. Brechin Castle Centre provides a variety of activities for families, including nature trails, miniature railway and model farm. For those keen on wildlife, there is a visitor centre at Montrose Basin Nature Reserve, where you can enjoy a telescopic view of the local wildlife, from migratory birds to seals. Visitors to Fasque Castle are spoilt for choice when it comes to activities. For golfers, the championship links at St Andrews and Carnoustie are tantalisingly close, and several local golf courses are available at Brechin, Letha

Beautiful location and setting, however the Gardeners Cottage is becoming tired inside and out for five star accommodation. Other cottages within Fasque Estate looked better maintained.

Wonderful property on an enclosed parkland land estate, allowing you to completely wind down & relax in beautifully maintained surroundings. The cottage is very tastefully furnished, with a nice traditionally cosy sitting room with a wonderful open fire perfect for evening snuggles watching the tv with a glass of wine, which leads on to a huge bright open plan kitchen, which has everything you could possibly need to prepare & cook a full evening or Sunday meal & with a large opening sliding door leading onto the paved patio & wonderful garden complete with climbing frame, swings & slide for the younger members of the family. Leisurely evening walks around the grounds, spotting the occasional flash of the red squirrels & watching young deer playfully leaping about. this was our 2nd stay on the Fasque Estate & we will certainly be back again.

Hello, Overall the cottage was as described but, with the following issues. At no time during our stay were we contacted concerning any issues we have with the property. One morning one of the toilets blocked and e-mail was quickly answered and the matter attended to by an estate employee. However the employee was foreign with little english. The sleeping accomodation was first rate. The lounge area however did not seat eight persons in comfort. The kitchen lacked rudimentary items such as a Pyrex dish etc and the cooker/oven was difficult to operate without experience. Additionally, an inventory of the equipment would have identified items missing such as items of cutlery and crockery which made eating difficult. However despite the above grumbles a lovely cottage.

No coffee and only one builders tea bag on arrival no matches to light fire no oven gloves?! We stayed a couple of years ago and had the most wonderful welcome pack so a little disappointed ! Information on local things to do would be helpful to those who don’t know the area?! But we do ! We love the peace and quiet and hope to return ?

Gardeners cottage was an excellently located, stunningly presented location for a friend's get-together. All rooms were well decorated and bathroom and kitchen facilities were modern and of the highest standard of cleanliness. Situated amongst beautiful surroundings, I would not hesitate to recommend Gardeners cottage to others. I will in all likelihood be returning myself.

Lovely cottage in beautiful setting, spotless and very comfortable. Only down side was bit of a lack of equipment in the kitchen when cooking for 8. Scales, measuring jug and few more mixing bowls etc would have made a difference. No robes or slippers either. Otherwise excellent property.

Absolutely loved our stay in gardeners cottage, which provided the perfect setting for our special mini break. We enjoyed it so much that we tried to extend it, however it was already booked for some other lucky people ! The reasons for my high score is 1) The cottage itself - private, spacious, comfortable & superb toiletries (same as Gleneagles !) 2) The grounds - if you have a dog/s or enjoy walking Fasque Estate is lovely & unchallenging (so great for young or elderly). Loved the pheasants running freely, different types of deer, the swans & ducks in the lake & was also privilege to watch 2 kites flying overhead. 3) The location - not too remote, however within driving distance of interesting places.....lovely coastline beaches, friendly individual eating & shopping places. 4) The weather.....well got lucky there !

Gardener's cottage is lovely, in a great location on the estate, lovely garden and surrounding estate for short walks. While we were there, we struggled to find any information in the cottage on how to work the under floor heating, we had to hunt for the WiFi password, and there was no information of rubbish collection etc. Most cottages we stay in have a folder with this information and apparently there was a folder, but we couldn't find it. The kitchen was very clean (although there were a lot of flies) and the bedrooms and lounge area were very comfortable. However the water was draining slowly from the ground floor bathroom and on investigation we found a lot of hair in the trap. I did email the cottage owners about this after we left (as it wasn't a huge issue and didn't spoil our stay), but I didn't receive a response, which was disappointing.
