The picturesque village of Hawkshead is just down the road, with its many tearooms, gift shops and pubs. The centre of the village is traffic free, so wander through the many arched side streets, squares, and enjoy the higgledy-piggledy houses that inspired both William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter in their day. Nearby Esthwaite Water is one of Lakeland’s lesser know lakes, but still has plenty to offer such as trout fishing, or you could hire a boat for the day. For guests who enjoy wildlife take one of the many trails around the shoreline and keep your binoculars to hand, you may be lucky enough to spot one of the visiting ospreys. Beach 22 miles.
