The property is unsuitable for children.\n\n Nestled in the rugged Coppermines Valley high above Coniston Fellside offers a cosy retreat for two. For centuries Coniston was the centre of the Lake District mining industry. This remote row of cottages is one of the historic reminders of that era when Fellside was home to copperminers. Now the cottage has been beautifully renovated with an original fireplace wood burning stove and open beams. It has uninterrupted views of the Old Man of Coniston. With numerous fantastic walks from the doorstep your car need never move all week. Fellside is about a mile above the village of Coniston and is accessed via an unmade road. It sits at the head of Coniston Water bustling with shops cafes and pubs. A short drive will take you to Hawkshead and Ambleside. Just amazing ! The cottage itself was perfect for the two of us, cosy, comfortable and perfect surroundings. I have been to coniston many times with family but this was my partners first time and he didn’t want to come home ! The walks in the welcome pack were very helpful. The bed was one of the comfiest beds I’ve ever slept in- just what you need after a days hike. As stated in other comments the sofa is slightly on the small side with nowhere to put your feet up after a long days hiking but I wouldn’t knock it for just that ! Will definitely return.

Cosy & comfortable cottage set in stunning surroundings. Personally would give 10 for location but my Wife is a non-walker & so we had to combine our reviews. Same with local amenities. Coniston very well served with good friendly shop with Butcher on sight. Not easy to just pop down to the pub especially at night. With regards to equipment in cottage it would have been nice to have fire laid on arrival. Initial logs supplied but no kindling or firelighters & only six matches. This meant no fire on our first night. Also no dishwasher tablets but an empty box in cupboard! Given the option I would prefer a small freezer rather than a dihwasher given the remoteness of the cottage. Main problem was one we come across a lot in rentals & that was only ONE key for front door. As a photographer & walker I often leave early which means that I either have to leave front door open or my Wife has to get up so she can lock up behind me & then if I return early I have to get her to let me back in. Just wonder if the owner's only have one key to their own home & go everywhere together? PLEASE provide TWO keys. That said I would happily stay here again. Just need to convince my Wife.

I'd lived in the Lake District without ever discovering the Coppermines Valley- it's stunning! And this is an absolutely great cottage. Our only criticism is nothing to put our feet up on after a tiring day walking or mountain biking, but we guessed that from the photos and brought a beanbag. As we plan to come again it would be great to see a footstool/otterman, there's plenty of room. 11/10 for the bed 🙂 please please maintain that, so many holidays are spoiled by not being able to get a decent night's sleep.

A lovely cottage in a beautiful location. Plenty of walks straight from the door and a cosy place to return to after long days on the fells. The wood burning stove was perfect to boost the temperature downstairs in the evening and relax in front of, with a well earned glass of wine. It was also one of the cleanest cottages we have stayed in over the years, although there was 'evidence' from some 'small furry friends' in the cupboard under the sink - considering time of year and location it was not a great surprise and by no means detracted from the property (and the evidence was limited to the cupboard only). As previously mentioned in other reviews the supplied towels were a bit on the small side. An easy walk down to Coniston ~1 mile but take a torch if you intend to return after dark! The track is adequate for most cars but any low clearance sporty numbers (with a longer bonnet) may struggle with some of the dips, just don't expect to drive particularly quickly unless you have a vehicle built for it. Almost forgot to mention the good selection of walks provided in the welcome pack (if you don't know the area very well).

We loved Fellside! It is a beautifully renovated cottage that retains its charm whilst providing all (high quality) mod cons! The cottage felt very cosy but didn’t feel small; it was extremely comfortable for the 2 of us and our Border Collie dog. There was no mobile reception in the cottage and intermittent signal locally, however the cottage had great WiFi. We appreciated the books on the local area and the number of dvd’s available. The cottage is in a stunning location with lots of fantastic walking straight from the door. It feels very remote and secluded but local amenities were all available in Coniston. The drive up & down the track was not a problem at all - it just needs to be driven slowly. Would have every intention of returning!

Our first stay at Fellside cottage and it won't be our last! A fantastic cottage, clean tidy and modern perfect for my wife, myself and our dog. Walks direct from the doorstep with views of the Old Man of Conniston Mountain straight in front of you, couldn't ask for better. Entry track isn't a problem to the cottage just take it steady. Can't wait to return!

Fellside cottage is in a fantastic location steeped in history so was great to spend a week exploring the area (trip up to reservoir on a evening is recommended via path behind cottage). The cottage itself is clean and well maintained with everything you could want. I nearly marked down as we would of liked to stretch a bit more on the sofa after a hard days walk but then you couldn't of fit a bigger one in anyway ;-) If you don't want to walk down to town every night, the log burner provides a cosy welcome feel and soon gets the room toasty. Allowing you to watch darkness fall or catch a movie from provided DVD's or TV (has a USB port if you bring your own movies). Recommend taking a torch for late walk back from town and using road path if your muscles are still aching from day time fell walking although other path is okay it does have some rocky / steep bits.

Lovely cosy cottage in a great location if you want to be off the beaten track which suited us fine. Lots of lovely walks from the door only used the car twice. Had an amazing week. Stunning scenery and views from the cottage. Like someone has already written the only downside was having to leave. The track up was ok saw a variety of cars use it probably not so suitable for low profile ones though. Walk up from Coniston to the cottage uphill. Inside the cottage is very well done out and the photos don’t do it justice. We will definitely go back.
