It is part of the curtilage of St Mary’s Church, which lies behind the barn and boasts the oldest church paintings in Europe at nearly 1,000 years old. Close to the Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire borders, you really couldn’t be better placed to explore all that these fabulous counties have to offer. Head to Thetford Forrest and Go Ape or explore High Lodge. Why not take a day boat from Brandon and drift along the River Little Ouse? Or for something with more hustle and bustle, city lovers will enjoy the fact that they can be in Bury St Edmunds visiting the Abbey or enjoying the festive Christmas Market or Ely exploring the cathedral and Stained Glass Museum in 30 minutes. Or, enjoy the University City or Cambridge where you can take a punting tour or explore the Fitzpatrick Museum or Norwich with its splendid Norman Castle in under an hour. All four offer a plethora of other attractions, including galleries, museums, theatres and great places to eat and drink, with all the shopping you could ever want. History buffs should add in a trip to the Hanseatic Quarter of Old Kings Lynn too, where you can join guided walking tours including one that celebrates things that go bump in the night. For a change of pace, you can be at the stunning North Norfolk coastline in just over an hour. Visit Hunstanton for its wide sandy beach, seasonal seal trip and lots of other traditional seaside attractions.
