    > Sympathetically converted, these super barn conversions (refs PRRJ and PRRK), previously the egg store of a renowned chicken farm, stand side by side adjacent to the owners’ home, which is on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Kirdford. Close to the South Downs National Park, these attractive holiday barns are ideal for couples wishing to stroll, cycle, fish, play golf or visit the numerous attractions within easy reach. Foxleigh Farm Barns has close access to an extensive network of footpaths, leading to the unspoilt part of the low weald, a haven for birds and wildlife. The quaint village of Petworth is 5 miles away, with its plentiful antique shops, beautiful stately home and Capability Brown designed gardens and parkland, where many functions and events can be enjoyed during the summer months. The charming small town of Midhurst, famous for polo at Cowdray Park is also a short drive, as are Billingshurst, Haslemere and Guildford. Goodwood, with its motor racing and horse racing, Fontwell races, West Dean Gardens, Parham House, The Weald, Downland Open Air Museum and the South Downs are all within easy driving distance, as is the cathedral city of Chichester with its extensive shopping and tea rooms, festival theatre and harbour tours. Alternatively, the town of Arundel with its famous castle and cathedral, plus the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust are both well worth a visit. The Witterings and other beaches are a half-hour’s drive and numerous golf courses are within easy reach. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

The Roost is the most amazing holiday cottage, everything you could wish for and more It is extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated in a peaceful location but very accessible and a great base from which to visit West Sussex. Elaine is a very thoughtful host and the welcome goodies were very appreciated.

Clean and comfortable cottage which welcomes dogs. However, the courtyard garden is very small and my dog needed to be taken out for a walk first thing and last thing as the space did not meet her requirements! So if you're looking for a cottage where you can just pop your dog outside to do its business you would do better to book the one next door, although there is still no lawn.

From a dog owner's perspective. The property is clean and well finished, a stairgate allows wet and muddy visitors to keep (some), of the outside within the hallway. A second toilet downstairs is included within the property. The garden fence is covered with chicken wire to stop curtail inquisitive pets from straying. The owner, Elaine, is very pleasant, helpful and provided wine , eggs, milk and cut flowers. The lane outside the property is quiet and useful in early morning exercise/toileting. There are walks from the door and a National Trust Woodland at the end of the lane. Petworth is approximately 2.5 miles away, passing the Star Inn and Scammel's garage enroute, nice dog friendly pub with food and the locals are welcoming. Access to the Petworth Estate deer park is approx. a mile past the main entrance and car park to the NT property. This is where the dog walkers park and have access to acres of grass and woodland just keep an eye out for the deer. There is a local co-op in Petworth and the car parking in the town is free for the first hour. A very nice part of the UK.

What a fantastic place to stay! Plenty of space for two, well furnished, really comfy bed, spotlessly clean. The host left eggs, milk and wine to welcome us, which was a nice touch. Our only suggested improvement would be a larger sofa for lounging on - but this really is a *very* minor point and didn’t spoil our enjoyment at all. We had a brilliant break at The Roost and will definitely be back!

Lovely cottage in a very pretty area. Plenty of local walks and places to visit nearby. Received a warm welcome from the owner with milk, wine and eggs. Visitors may need to be aware of aeroplane noise as Gatwick Airport isn’t too far away.
