• About Garth Cottage

A really enchanting, traditional detached cottage with contemporary comfort and style which enjoys its own, very private, fully enclosed garden. Set in a peaceful Wolds village 6 miles from the market town of Louth, an interesting market town with many food specialists and independent shops, and just 20 minutes drive from the unspoilt sandy beach at Sandilands (a beach hut may be rented at small extra cost). There is excellent local walking and many quiet rural lanes for cycling. Medieval Lincoln, Doddington Hall, Horncastle with its many antique shops, Skegness and Gunby Hall and Gardens (NT) are within easy reach. Horse riding and golf locally. Shop/post office 1 mile, pub 2 miles.

We found the cottage comfortable but a little too small for 4 adults and 2 dogs, 1 large and 1 medium sized. The gardens are beautiful and we liked the location, being within a few miles of both Louth (for shopping) and the coast at Saltfleet, Sutton on Sea and Mablethorpe. Saltfleet in particular was ideal for the dogs with it's huge sandy beach and very few people. We also enjoyed drives into the Wolds, which are stunning. But local walks seem limited and you do need a car to get anywhere else at all.

Excellent location for those requiring a peaceful break. No WiFi which is fine by me. Enclosed garden and numerous dog walks in countryside or on near deserted beaches.

Very relaxed holiday based from a quiet and comfortable cottage. Shops are not in the immediate vicinity but within an easy distance. Overall a lovely cottage and a wonderful week.

Garth Cottage is a charming place to spend some time. Mrs. Neilsen lives next door and is friendly and helpful. It's hard to think of anything she hadn't provided when setting things up. Every amenity is provided. EE doesn't provide a mobile signal out that way (others may do) but being away from the Internet and 'phone calls gave us a better and more relaxed short break. Our dogs loved their runs around the garden - something they can't do get at home without which was good because their walks were only as far as each end of the village. The fields are all planted with crops so there are no cattle fields to roam with the dogs but the coast is only a few miles away. Neighbouring villages, Legbourne and Manby, have shops and pubs and Louth is only a few miles away. Typical of us, we took bad weather with us and our first two days were a bit of a washout but the location, the cottage and the quietness suited us completely. The central heating is most efficient but we also took advantage of the fireplace in the sitting room. If you live in a town and surrounded by street lighting, take a stroll around the garden at night to remind yourself of what stars look like. The double bedroom has a skylight which also gives you a view as you lie in bed. Ten out of ten from our experience! Thanks, Mrs. N.

Very disappointed. Have stayed in many cottages and this by far was our least favourite. Very unhygienic and dirty. My son caught his foot on an extremely, uncovered, hot flow pipe from coal fire which was located at the bottom of his bed!! Also insufficient hot water as heating system was not fit for purpose.

If quiet rural location is your thing this is the cottage for you. There is no Wifi unless you go out on the street. Numerous nearby towns to visit and many deserted beaches all within easy reach.

It was a comphy little cottage only thing I would recommend is WiFi a phone as the mobile network is very poor so if you need to call a doctor or emergency services.

We found Garth Cottage to be ideal for our particular requirements. The location is very good being set in quiet and lush rural site with very good access to more of the same, plus a reasonable array of local amenities only a short drive away. It is also very well placed for coastal access from the traditionally tacky and brash resorts to the more sedate and understated access points to spacious sandy beaches. The cottage itself is well presented, furnished and equipped without being extravagant. The layout has its quirks (remember to duck under older doorways) but offers a good amount of space to spread out, eat and cook. The garden is small but with high levels of privacy and in June received three-quarters sun coverage from dawn to dusk. Lincolnshire is under-exploited as a rural retreat, and for nature-lovers, and outdoor enthusiasts provides a delectable arena. We really enjoyed our stay (it must be noted, during the best summer weather for several years) and found the premises very good value for money.
