Set in the idyllic surroundings of Kilmartin Glen, close to the historic village of Kilmartin, this beautiful cottage forms part of a thoughtful conversion from what was once a Victorian village hall. Retaining the original wooden village hall floor throughout, with high ceilings and large windows, there is a real period feel to this building complemented by contemporary décor and a cosy wood burning stove. There are two welcoming bedrooms, a double & a twin, served by a modern shower room. The kitchen is exceptionally well-equipped and will be a delight to prepare meals for serving in the dining area situated in the adjacent conservatory, which enjoys views over the fields towards Kilmartin. There is plenty of parking, space to store bicycles, as well as outdoor seating with superb views over Kilmartin Glen and a private lawned area.
The village of Kilmartin is half a mile away along a footpath and has a hotel with friendly bar and a museum highlighting some of the many incredible archaeological discoveries made in this part of Argyll. Kilmartin Glen is an area steeped in Neolithic and Bronze Age history with an impressive offering of pre-historic sites, including castles, standing stones, burial cairns and hill forts. The Kilmartin Glen footpath leads from Kilmartin, passing by many of the monuments as it meanders through the landscape of the Moine Mhor, a lowland raised bog of international importance, eventually leading to Cairnbaan and the Crinan Canal, one of the most beautiful waterways in Britain passing through 9 miles of wonderful scenery. Crinan harbour is 7 miles along a winding single track road where you can charter boats or take boat trips around the islands where it is possible to see whales, porpoise, seals, many sea birds including golden and white-tailed eagles, and the spectacular Corryvreckan Whirlpools. There are beautiful walks to be enjoyed throughout the area, along the Canal, or in the forest at Kilmichael and Knapdale, home to the first beavers re-introduced into Scotland. Outdoor activities available locally include horse riding, sailing, walking, fishing, canoeing.
Just a short 7 mile drive takes you to the local country town of Lochgilphead, which has a variety of specialist shops, cafes and restaurants, a swimming pool, golf course and sports centre. The fishing village of Tarbert (20 miles) gives you easy access to ferry points across Kintyre travelling to Gigha, Arran, Islay and Portavadie. Further afield but offering a great day out are the towns of Oban (31 miles), the Gateway to the Isles to the north, Inveraray, the capital of Argyll (33 miles), to the East and Campbeltown (60 miles) to the far South on the Kintyre Peninsula. Beach 5 miles. Pub and restaurant 2½ miles.
