Please note There are internal steps throughout.\n This beautifully renovated cottage was once the home of the renowned Cumbrian artist Percy Kelly. You will see engraved in the lintel in the bedroom “AK – PK – 1958”. The artist lived in Cumbria for more than 50 years and in Glen Cottage for twelve of those. Follow the Kelly Trails which have been formed totally through Kelly’s paintings and drawings and stretch from the door of Glen Cottage in Allonby to St Bees.\nGlen Cottage itself is a very comfortable tranquil cottage with views stretching out over the Solway Firth to Scotland in the distance. It has insulated lime render walls inside and outside as well as underfloor heating in the living room and sitting room making the house very warm and cosy. The sitting room retains a lot of original features including beams complete with hook as well as a large inglenook fire place with a wood burner and sandstone flooring which makes a particularly attractive and a cosy spot to warm up in front of after a long day exploring.\nAllonby is a great base for walking windsurfing kite surfing cycling or just relaxing on the beach. With 2 pubs serving meals 2 shops and a take-away you don’t have to worry about cooking after a busy day out. Why not try the famous ’Allonby Whopper’ ice cream people travel for miles to come and try one\nOnly 200 yards across the road guests can enjoy an afternoon of sea fishing without a licence. For those who want to get out and about and explore the area the Lake District National Park is on your doorstep. From Glen Cottage you can also easily explore the delights of the unspoilt Cumbrian Coast. Be sure however to follow a Percy Kelly Trail Beach 200 yards. Shop pub and restaurant 100 yards. \n " https://img.chooseacottage.co.uk/Property/141/840/1412077.jpg UKC2597

We had a very enjoyable relaxing week in mid July, just as things are beginning to open up post CV19. Glen Cottage is an old character property which has been very tastefully restored and for a 2 bed has quite a large area of downstairs space. Location within Allonby is very central with chip shop over road & pub a few doors along. Whilst within the village it is detached and as such don't need to worry about sound to neighbors (within reason!). A good combination of quiet location but with amenities on hand. Allonby itself is a quiet place; long beach with views over to Scotland. We spent much of our time exploring the Solway coast (great for cycling). It is much quieter than the throng of the Lakes, but within a short drive if you do need to venture into the hills.

nice, homely cottage, added bonus of having a downstairs shower as well as an upstairs bathroom. Nice flowers and food left for us when we arrived, people in the area were welcoming . five minute walk or less to be on the sand, which goes out a long way at low tide. Very dog friendly. Parked in front of the cottage, which was helpful

Lovely warm cosy cottage, two pubs within striking distance both serving food and fish n chip shop across the road, all we needed for a long weekend with Maisie (our border collie). Silloth well worth a visit as was Buttermere. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay despite Storm Dennis :-)

We used this as our honeymoon after our one got cancelled due to thomas cook folding and we will honestly never look back. Amazing little cottage l, clean with helpful owners who couldnt do enough for you. The log burner and underfloor heater were great. We are definitely looking to book again in the near future

It was my intention of getting away from city life for a short break without having to be too far away from it and Glen Cottage provided exactly what I was looking for.

Glen Cottage is my favourite of all time - amazingly renovated with many charming features, so welcoming and comfortable, centrally located and within a stone's throw of the beach. Visiting the Percy Kelly Exhibition at Tullie House Museum in Carlisle a couple of years ago was a revelation and my stay at the cottage was a special, unforgettable experience. Set in the peace and calm of Allonby, it is the perfect getaway and a wonderful tribute to a highly gifted artist.
