A stunning getaway proving that you don’t necessarily have to go to the highlands to get peace, tranquility & beautiful vistas. Only a short drive from Castle Douglas for your food shop. And The Clachan Inn, just down the road In St. John’s Town of Dalry, serves fantastic food & great beer (which pleased my 19 year old son!). The house itself is simply amazing & we got lucky with the weather too. So sitting out on the lawn, with a glass of single malt in my hand & staring out across the valley, not a cloud in the sky, with my son, will live long in the memory. Everything inside of the house is of the finest quality too, if the weather does happen to be inclement. Highly recommended & only a 4 hour drive from our house in Yorkshire.

The only problem is locating the property; all three parties (travelling from different areas) struggled. A suggestion would be to have a sign with the name of the property on the roadside; we all noticed the property named Houl as we drove by. When giving directions I think mentioning a quarry is a mistake as there is no evidence of one. Why not use the wind-turbine as a marker because the house can clearly be seen below it when driving on the B7000 and tell people not to leave this stretch of road. Having said this, we all had a lovely week celebrating a 60th birthday!

This is a stunning house in a quiet peaceful location. The views are breathtaking. We chose this place because it was dog friendly and the walks through the nearby Galloway forest are perfect. There was also enough room for our 3 young children to spread out. We look forward to going back again.

This is a great place for the family, it is a large property, with stunning views, quite and peaceful but near to towns. There is a good selection of DVDs Loads of wild birds including red kite and clear skies for star gazing. Enough seats in the lounge for a large family of six, big beds and more than 1 bathroom. There is a down side to the position of the house, its on a hillside on a curved dirt road and my people carrier bottomed out a couple of times but once I got a hang of the bend and it wasn't loaded it got better.
