Lovely cosy cottage, comfortable with everything you need, located in a quiet, peaceful village with amazing views. Fantastic garden space if you are travelling with dogs and green outside the cottage is perfect for the kids to play out. Local pub is excellent and couldn’t do enough for us.

We had a wonderful stay in this gorgeous old cottage. Loved waking up to sheep walking past our house. The cottage was clean and comfortable. We had a rainy week unfortunately so we used the fire in the evenings to warm up which was lovely. It took a good half hour to get to Keswick from Caldbeck but we got to see some spectacular scenery and we were happy to drive around. The local pub was great and would highly recommend the food. We couldn’t see a shop so we had to get our groceries in Keswick. Would recommend to anyone that doesn’t mind the drive into the lakes. Very beautiful part of the country.

Very nice cottage in a chocolate box village. Everything you could want, including a lovely garden to sit out in at night. The only downside is the bathroom through the kitchen, dogs thought it was time to get up every time I went to the loo in the night! Lovely view from the window of Common and pond. Also, sheep and ducks! The village itself has a lovely pub serving good food. Two tea rooms and a shop, to get your morning paper from. Tea rooms will sell anything on the menu as a takeaway in case you don't want to cook. Doctors surgery, gift shop and Church complete the lovely villagy feel. Would definitely go back.

Enjoyed our week in the cottage. We found the torch provided very useful for visiting the downstairs bathroom at night! Information about car parking was incorrect so needs to be corrected on the information sent out. It would be useful for various switches to be labelled as we had to experiment to find out which operated what. We made the last entry in the visitor book so it now requires a new one. It was a lovely spot to stay and the cottage suited our needs.

If you are looking for a basic cottage - this will do the trick. However it was cold and wet when we went there (early May) and it took a whole day to warm the house. Thankfully there was a coal fire and supply of coal!. The living room is very cramped for 4 (it was cosy for 2 and one dog!). Everything was clean and the beds were hard but surprisingly comfortable. The kitchen is quite basic and never really got warm (even with the storage heater on). The pots and pans are very used and there is limited crockery - many of the baking dishes are heat cracked from much use. The cottage is in a reasonable location for the North Lakes and North (e.g. Hadrian's Wall). The setting itself of the cottage was very nice. Just about value for what we paid.

This was actually a tricky review to do, the cottage is great and the location beautiful. I was however left feeling a bit, well disappointed. Its funny how sometimes in life it is the little things that you remember rather than the big things. For instance the hot water was not on, there was nothing in the book as to which switch made it work so just ended up turning them all on. What really upset me with this one was no towels, it took an age to get through on the telephone, then to find my booking, then to find out that towels did not come with the property, bedding did but not towels, I was then chastised because if towels had come with the property it would have said so!!!!! I did point out that there was a sofa there but it did not say that either, or even a roof for that matter, what an absolutely ridiculous comment to make!

Our 2nd stay at Greenside and again thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Caldbeck is a fabulous village on the edge of the national park, so its not as busy as some, but may be too far out for others, for us its perfect. The cottage is unsophisticated but that is part of its charm. We will be back!
