Hoseasons "If you’re looking for a relaxing holiday Hesket Newmarket is a small peaceful village and is ideally situated for exploring the Lake District.\n\nGreenway is semi-detached and sits in a prominent position in delightful Hesket Newmarket a small village situated at the northern edge of the Lake District National Park nestling in the Caldbeck Fells. Overlooking the village green Greenway boasts a large wood burner in the living room perfect for returning to after a day on the fells. The accommodation is spacious with a cosy living room dining room and a farmhouse kitchen. A very private garden to the rear will make your holiday complete. This quaint little village has a village shop a pub and is also home to Hesket Newmarket Brewery one of the first microbreweries in Cumbria which produces one of the widest ranges of distinctive real ales in the county. Superb walking exists from your doorstep catering for all ages - you can walk for miles without seeing a soul. This cottage ought to be a massive 10 but, although it is more than adequate and we enjoyed our holiday (how can you not enjoy the Lakes?) , it left us slightly underwhelmed. Rooms are large and mostly reasonably well furnished but there is just a slightly worn-out feeling to many things. A bit of tlc wouldn't come amiss. The log burner isn't very efficient and the so-called "first load of logs" turned out to be some twigs and tree branches from the garden - they did not burn well and I think summed up what felt to us as the whole half -hearted approach of the owners. Settees need replacing. The kitchen especially is in need of refreshing - a working tin opener would be nice? Had to call for help when the downstairs sink plug mechanism broke - despite this obviously being reported by previous visitors.... heating was difficult to control and information in "welcome file" was sketchy and rather poor.... not possible to recycle .... It just wasn't quite good enough compared to other cottages we have hired in a similar price-bracket. Local pub was GREAT though!

Great location. Cottage is spacious and has a good sized garden. The furnishing is basic and the place has a slightly careworn but comfortable feel.

Lovely cottage, ideal base for exploring the Lake District. Local pub handy for meals which were very nice. Only fault was no welcome pack and no initial fuel pack for wood burner which cottages we have previously used have provided. All in all excellent holiday.

A lovely cottage but a long slow journey into northern Lakes area. Lovely farmhouse kitchen and plenty of space throughout. Some refurbishment of the cottage would be advisable. The back garden is enclosed but with a low wall which one of our dogs managed to jump over. That needs to be made clear to guests. The beds were a bit hard ?

Very spacious, large secure garden, pub was fully booked for food even though no one was eating, shop is small, easy access to the northern lakes which was great, dishwasher does need attention, this is a great house, but needs some TLC in the cleaning department. Would stay again! No starter pack for the fire, but heating was more than enough.

The owners have clearly spent a lot of time and money renovating the cottages but it does feel like they would now benefit from some maintenance. The exterior is starting to look rather tatty and internally it feels like a really thorough clean up or re-decoration would help. The cottage was generally clean but not to the standard we have experienced at other cottages We also had a few other issues: The seal on the dishwasher door fell off, so every time we used the dishwasher we had to refit the seal. Storm Ali arrived while we were there and a roof tile came off, I'm sure that the cleaners will have noticed this. The central heating instructions are not clear at all, if the weather had been cold we would have frozen Had real problems with the wood burner, not sure whether this was down to the logs that were left or a maintenance issue. Given our problems with the heating this could have been a problem
