Dating back to the mid 1800’s this beautifully presented period cottage offers something really special. What was originally built by the former Duke of Westminster for his estate workers, has now become a wonderful holiday cottage less than a mile from the centre of historic Chester. Constructed in a John Douglas design, the cottage forms part of the Handbridge conservation area, and once inside you’ll note many characterful features have been retained. Beams are exposed in both the living room and vaulted bedroom ceiling, and original latch doors are still in place. These have been enhanced further by Thomas Sanderson plantation shutters and beautiful handmade curtains throughout.
It boasts off road parking, and quite wonderfully, there’s also a small but perfectly formed cottage garden which is both enclosed and covered, meaning all weather use and those with children or four legged friends can truly relax. The cottage is just a short walk from the facilities that nearby Handbridge has to offer including an array of independent shops, public houses and cafés. Furthermore, a picturesque walk over the River Dee via the Old Dee Bridge also provides easy access into the city centre where you’ll find literally something for everyone.
There’s a comprehensive array of historical features, including The Walls which circle the city and Chester Cathedral. Shopping can be enjoyed on the famous ’rows’ and there are ample restaurants and nightlife to suit all tastes. Beautiful Grosvenor Park holds summer open air concerts, and the world famous Chester Racecourse is also just a 20-minute stroll. Slightly further afield Chester Zoo, the Blue Planet Aquarium and Cheshire Oaks outlet village are all around a 20-minute drive, and being on the border of North Wales, means that beautiful scenery, mountains and beaches are all easily accessible. Pub 1 mile.
